Moore ich and a cloudy eye

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Not near the aquarium right now so i will post Params later. So, for a few weeks she was bottom sitting. I wasn't sure if it was because of the current in the tank as she would still eat. Then I was watching her and I noticed 1 or 2 specs of "salt" on her. And at least one of her eyes were slightly cloudy.

We did a 100% water change that day because we needed to move the 56g aquarium. (3 fancies in it btw). I added 1tsp/gal of salt to the aquarium and she has been a lot more active. I still see the 1 to two specs and her eye is still a lil cloudy but better than before.

So...now what? Meds i have are melafix, medigold, metro meds, salt, and this ich cure all stuff which only seems practical for smaller tanks

Tank is 56 gallons. 3 fancies: 1 oranda, a ryukin, moore and a small rubber lip Pleco. Tank has been goin for about 3 years. Did a 50% water change today after allowing the salt to work for 1 week.

My dslr crashed on me so if ya'll want pics it will be iPhone quality. The one or two specs will be hard to photograph i think.

Thanks!

Post phone pics of both the specks and the eye and cut/paste/complete the form (below my sig) when you can.

Ich generally spreads to more than 2 specks. When did you last treat for Flukes?

Is the cloudiness inside the eye (on the lens) or on the outside (on the cornea)?

If we do determine it is Ich, then 0.3% salt and heat would be the best way to go rather than the Ich Cure. If the clouded eye is due to trauma or a minor bacterial infection, then the Melafix may help. If it is more serious, then the Metro Meds would probably be the way to go. But, we really need to see the pictures first to make a correct diagnosis.

Hi Mike,

I am also not inclined to think it's ich, because I don't think that ich will persist sub-clinically like that for that long. I think pics will be very helpful! :)

Hmm. Here's the link again, the above isn't working for some reason.

It's hard to photograph.

From what I can see, it doesn't look serious. I would just make sure the water was pristine and observe. If you really want to treat it, I would try the Melafix first since it is so mild. It would probably be prudent to do a couple of routine Prazi rounds as well.

  • Test Results for the Following:

    • * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0
    • * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0

    • * Nitrate level(Tank) <5.0 ppm
    • * Ammonia Level(Tap) (Not done)
    • * Nitrite Level(Tap) (Not done)
    • * Nitrate level(Tap) (Not done)
    • * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Ph: 7.6
    • * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) (Not done)
    • Other Required Info:

      • * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API

      • * Water temperature? Thermometer met algae magnet. So, I'm goin off of the temp setting of heater in aquarium. About 74 degrees.
      • * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 56g. About 3 years
      • * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Eheim huge...um Eheim 3e 2078
      • * How often do you change the water and how much? Lately, once a week between 50 and 60 percent.

  • * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 50% Tuesday. And 100% a week before that.

  • * How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 fancies- Ryukin, Oranda, and moore between 6-7 inches I believe. And a small rubber lip pleco
  • * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime. Sometimes use seachem flourish
  • * What do you feed your fish and how often? Fed twice a day. In the morning pellets (hikari lionhead pellets) and in the evening repashi soilent green (soon to be replaced by super green).
  • * Any new fish added to the tank? The moore and the ryukin are the "newest" addition to the tank. About 5 months ago-ish. So, no not really.
  • * Any medications added to the tank? Presently, after the water change there is approx 1/2 tsp/gallon of salt in the aquarium from the prior 1 tsp/gallon tx.
  • * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Salt, 3 rounds of Prazi, used melafix for the moore a few months ago-her eye seemed a bit red. All tx's lasted about 1 week.
  • * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Just white spots that pop up here and there. Sometimes the oranda gets them on his wen but I assume that's just wen growth. Occasionally, I will see the white spots on the moore. And it's hard to tell on the ryukin because of her color. The moore has a cloudy eye and was lethargic prior to the salt treatment.
  • * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc. The moore and the oranda sometimes bottom sit at night. Steve from Raingarden said that a strong filter like I have might cause them to bottom sit so that they can rest. I don't know if that's true. They come up to eat though.
