goldfish newbie 7 Posted April 6, 2014 I dug up a filter from the basement and i set it up a small tank with it. It works like a charm. the problem is the noise. It makes this incredibly loud humming noise that i can't seem to muffle, my parents complain about it from downstairs. I know its not clogged since i cleaned it before i used it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to muffle the humming? I think its an aqueon HOB if that helps. The box was lost a year ago.
Jenniferhackler 104 Posted April 6, 2014 Something with the motor? If I were you I'd probably take it apart to the fullest extent I could and give the rotary thing a good cleaning.
GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) After you inspect and clean the impeller/motor, try and putting some petroleum jelly or another fish safe lubricant on it. Edited April 6, 2014 by ChelseaM
sonny.barile 111 Posted April 6, 2014 Before you take everything apart, make sure it isnt just the plastic lid vibrating or something simple like that. (But I bet it is a dirty impeller as described above.)
