How much Media should I have in my filter?

You know, I've never been sure if I'm packing my filter right or using the right amount of media...I mean it's doing the job since my nitrate levels stay pretty low and I have a good cycle..but I'm curious

In my 2000lph Canister Filter I have about 2.5kg of ceremic media, divided into the three trays, each with filter sponge on top.

In my 990lph top Filter I have about 1kg of Ceremic Media, divided between the trays, each with sponge on top

Is this enough? Should I have more/less?

Just those ceremic rings, I bought them off ebay from a link Helen posted before, oh and I have some matrix in the top filter (came with the tank :P)

The reason I ask is that you want as much water as possible flowing over those rings without escaping around them, as that is efficient biological filtration. I think you have it covered. :)
