Hello all

So i was just wondering how everyone else well cleans there filters , talking about internal filters that are inside aquariums. The filter sponge is always taken out of the bottom and for me when i take it out some loose debris it collected always falls back in , am i doing it wrong ? How does everyone else remove the filter sponge without some debris falling back into the water? Thanks.

One of my filters is internal. It came with the tank and I use it as supplemental filtration. I remove it at the beginning of my WC, that way once I start removing water and siphoning the bottom I can collect whatever gunk fell out.

Another option would be to submerge a tupperware container (or similar) and hold it underneath your filter as you remove it thus bringing any gunk with you.

I use an internal filter as a supplemental on my 30g tank. I leave it running until it is out of the water, place it in a bowl, unplug. I never get debris falling out :)
