Time to Work on General Hardness?

Recommended Posts

The gh in my tank is 3 to 4 drops (via API testing). Alex indicated that it is best to get it up to 7-10 drops (same as the kh). Right now Jack and Whale are being treated for a bacterial infection using MetroMeds. They are about 8 days into it and are doing very well. As far as I could tell the bacterial infection was relatively mild--they responded to MM within a day. (There is thread on DD about this.) Anyway, I'm curious if this would be a good time to optimize the gh in my tank. (I recently received a GH booster from Green Leaf Aquariums.) Or should I wait until the MM treatment is done? Thoughts?

One more thing: My tank is currently cycling. I'm in the nitrite phase, eagerly awaiting nitrates.

You might as well add.

Are the fish in the cycling tank? If so, please add 1 level teaspoon salt per 10 gallons water to block the nitrites. :)
