DieselPlower 2,123 Posted October 6, 2013 OK well what I thought were fry of a ryukin and a oranda turn out to be fry out a fantail and a oranda. I believe I was just wrong about what kind of fish i had! It looks to me like they will be fantails. I have 12 of them. I would bet if I weighted them, the biggest one would way 10 times what the smallest one does. When I started feeding them frozen baby brine shrimp, their growth rate really exploded. So anyway, here is a Youtube video of them. I dont plan to keep all of them so if anyone local wants one, let me know. I could bring one to Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, or Battle Creek, Michigan. Comments, questions, suggestions etc always welcome.

DieselPlower 2,123 Posted October 7, 2013 They're all so adorable!!! Are you feeding them only frozen bbs right now? Yes. I started with Hikari first bites and then fed them a 30 pack of the bbs. When thatas gone I tried some small sinking pellets. The little rascals would suck them up and then slit them out. Spoiled brats! So I picked up another 30 pack of frozen bbs. I hope this does not lead to a problem down the road.

I don't think it would lead to any problems but I do throw in a pea once a week and they seem to enjoy that too.

DieselPlower 2,123 Posted October 7, 2013 You have some awesome fish there, whatever their parents may have been! Whit are you going to do with them all? The pond for some? I would like to keep them all in my 40B as long as i can keep the water parameters acceptable. I do want to put a few of them in the pond, but they are still small and there are a few decent size frogs in there. The other problem i have now is that the water in the pond will be going back below 70 today and probchocolate continually from now thru Winter. So i think think i will have to wait til Spring. I also want to put one or two in my 75 gallon, to replace their Mom, a friendly chocolate Oranda that passed away. I also plan to keep three in my 40B. A number people have measured them close to 45 gallons and i think that will be fine for a while. The remaining fish will be donated to a LFS.
