phoebie 169 Posted August 9, 2013 I've been browsing online and found Star Fisheries, a UK fancy goldfish specialist, and immediately fell in love with their calico red cap Orandas, but before spending all that money I want to know I'm getting what I'm paying for. So anyone had any experiences with this site?
Danny250183 23 Posted August 9, 2013 I've had two fish from them. If your just browsing there web site be warned, the prices you see there are for sub average fish, also the photos are a general photo, not what you will get!! Second of all there fish are well know for flukes, mainly due to them been imports but don't let this put you off just make sure you take precautions for it in QT. If you give them a ring and ask for Andy, tell him what you want and he will give you a price. They have everything from sub standard fish to show grade, but the cost will reflect this. They are having another open day in September but the date is not confirmed yet. There shipping is brill, the fish come in a big box with lots of room, and the delivery are posted out last thing in the evening and delivered in the morning. Over all I would recommend them, but pay a little extra for a better fish, and QT the fish for the full lengh of time and treat with a wormer treatment These are the two I had from them

tithra 4,917 Posted August 9, 2013 There are people here who have excellent experiences with them and other who have not. Please be warned that if you do decide to buy from them, you should do a very long and thorough QT and be prepared with meds on hand before you get the fish just in case you need them. There have certainly been very good experiences with this seller, but there have also been some very bad experiences that would make me cautious about the health of their fish.
phoebie 169 Posted August 9, 2013 Thanks, I will keep all that in mind, they are gorgeous fish, and me being me, I don't mind spending the extra money for the better quality, I'll be sure to contact them if or when I decide to buy from them I am a bit cautious about ordering online, my instincts always say view the fish first, but they're so beautiful!
Danny250183 23 Posted August 9, 2013 As soon as I get the email from Andy green telling me when the open day is I will post in this section of the forum letting everyone know, I want to go to this one, as am after a Thai Black Oranda, but I want to pick it myself

Gcourtney 854 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) I like Andy's veiled tailed telescopes and blue ryukins alot but international shipping is alot, not to mention the stress from such a long journey across the pond. But I still like druel over his fish. Edited August 9, 2013 by Gustave
Mikey 6,780 Posted August 9, 2013 I have always thought about ordering from him. I may give him a try when the time is right. I have emailed him before. . And his shipping to NJ isn't a terrible price at all. I believe it is about 30 dollars

dnalex 13,633 Posted August 10, 2013 Yes, I know he has international shipping, but life is not that simple. This is from APHIS http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/animal_import/marine_import_fish.shtml USDA Guide Sheet for Live Finfish ImportsLive finfish of most species may be imported into the United States without import requirements from USDA. However, 8 species of fish that are susceptible to the disease Spring viremia of carp (SVC) have recently come under USDA oversight. These species are: common carp, including koi carp (Cyprinus carpio), goldfish (Carassius auratus), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus), silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis), Crucian carp (Carassius carassius), tench (Tinca tinca), and sheatfish (Silurus glanis).New regulations have been developed for the importation of live fish and their gametes (eggs and milt) from these species. The regulations pertain to commercial shipments and to fish brought in to the US as personal baggage.Live fish of these species may continue to be imported, provided they are accompanied by a USDA import permit and a veterinary health certificate issued by a full-time veterinary officer or Competent Authority of the National Government of the exporting country.

great_kahn 109 Posted August 12, 2013 Bought my pair from Star last November, no problems with them, followed all the cycling and stocking instructions to the letter from this site and another. Very very pleased with them, was having a nightmare trying to find decent fancy goldfish in aquaria near me, most were of poor qualiy, fantails advertised as orandas etc. Ranchu is a red and white, oranda is a red head calico and is gonna be massive methinks, from 3 inch to 7 in 9 months... eeep. Here is an example of the fish he can get... 10.5" panda oranda.

Guest Mr Grump Posted August 13, 2013 Nothing but trouble from them. Also a very nasty person indeed. Fish were severely infected.
