Thank you for your info.

I have been to the Aqua Desin before as I used to live by the pershore road and not far from there. It is impressive.

Shirley Auqatics is about 1 hr drive from my home, but I am still going to have a look around.

Lozbug, if you want to buy fish from there, you can log onto its website and order online: http://www.shirleyaquatics.co.uk/

The best fish store in Edinburgh that Ive seen is more than half way down Leith Walk. It's called Aquatic Rooms.

It's fairly cheap, has clean tanks with healthy fish. Nice selection. Although its goldfish aren't particularely good quality.

I visited World of Aquatics at Wyevales, Thorley Lane, Timperley (8 miles South of MANCHESTER)

Fantastic store. Huge selection of Cold water, tropical, and marine fish + Tanks, ponds and equipment. Well worth a visit even if your not buying.

That is what I was going to say. It is fantastic and at the moment has a real good selection of goldies.

Ive recently got 2 ranchu and a gorgeous crown pearlscale.

Although the manager is the most sarcastic man ive ever met :krazy:

Kim,etc in north london, sorry, i know your posts were a while ago, but I used to live in just outside Hertfordshire, I thin your best bet is the Crews Hill area ( which I think someone mentioned). There are about 4 or 5 fish shops within a stretch of road. Wildwoods is v good for tropicals, tho I have had a problem with a couple of goldies that developed costia within about 12 hours of me getting them home! Wildwoods is also v good for tank setup and advice. there is Tranquillity, which has some beautiful fish, and if you are there you should pop inton Jollye as they have parrots, kittens, puppies etc, i could stay in there for hours! The best shop for advice is the one in the same car park as the gardencente, opposite the Reptil Den. It doesnt have a name, andlooks a bit weird from the outside, but they guy in there knows more about fish than anyone I have ever met in my life! we used to spend ages chatting when I popped in there for some supplies. anyway, hope this is useful to you!

No one lives near me! Hey ho. I go to Tranquility in Woodingdean (use to be in Brighton, but moved to a much bigger place just outside). It's not perfect, and their fish are expensive-but healthy! I've never seen a dead or dying fish in there which is always a good sign, and some of their bigger goldfish fish are in the shop for a fair few months before they get bought and look very healthy and happy all the while. Their tropical section is good too, and they have some nice display tanks. So depsite the fact they aren't cheap I go there to buy my livestock, and they've all turned into lovely fish. I buy everything else online-either Aquatics Warehouse (which I think someone already mentioned) or Aquatics Online (www.aquatics-online.co.uk) and Greenline do a great selection of very reasonabley priced plants (www.aquaticplants.eu.com). I'd thoroughly recommend their coldwater selections, as do Pratical Fishkeeping, though you do occasionally get a couple of non-aquatic reeds which I pick out.

i live in a place called Stoke-on-Trent (midlands), and the shop i always use is called Glovers he is a fantastic shop and would'nt go anywere else and,

you know when he's had new stock in because they don't go on sale straight away

he even has qratine tanks which you can see in a back room as you enter the shop and to my delight he has just set up a marien tank which looks fantastic.

I'm in Nantwich, Cheshire (not too far from you, Wizz) and we're lucky enough to have Stapeley Water Gardens just down the road - everything for your aquarium or garden pond and suchlike. Seem very knowledgeable. Also there is Ripples at Bridgemere Garden World which has just expanded and is now pretty huge. They have a really good range of fish, tanks and treatments; although some of the fish had Ich last time I went. I mentioned it to the bloke and he said they were going to treat them - it'll be interesting to see what the situation's like next time I go (looking for fish for the Juwel 400 I'm about to get! :tbanana ).

for all the people near crosby, Liverpool, will be happy to know that Sefton Meadows closed their fish section before christmas, i had very bad service frome there and they didnt look after their cold water fish, and in late Feb Maiden Head Aquatics will be opening.

I also visited World of Water near Preston, which was very good, amazing fish, not so many coldwater though.

I found out when Pets at home get their delivery of fish in, and waited for the fish to be put in to the tanks and bought one baby oranda and one baby fantail that are in excellent condition, had them about 2 months now and are both growing and doing well.

i couldnt find any healthy coldwater fish near me so went in pets at home, i have to say the one near me is quite good, and they have the ill fish quarantined. but they do not know everything,. and sometimes have the wrong labels up. they are trained in every department and dont seem to specialise.

another good place i use is Neptune Aquatics, know what they are talking about, but tend to have any coldwater fancies in, more tropical and marine.

I just want to add that Stapeley is definitely the place to buy goldies in South Cheshire! We went on Sunday and, instead of drooling over the tanks and equipment like I usually do, I checked out the fish. They have some beautiful black ranchus and enormous orandas, all beautifully kept in very large tanks, with signs all over the place telling you that their fish are always quarantined before being put out for sale but that you should still quarantine them for at least 14 days after you get them home. :exactly

They obviously really know what they're talking about (and just a short walk along a muddy footpath from my house - how lucky am I?) :yeah:

Another plug for Maidenhead Aquatics - you'll find me in the Telford one every weekend eyeing up the goldies I don't have any room for :P They're a little more expensive than for example Pets At Home but you definitely get your money's worth. When looking to buy a moor I checked out Pets At Home first, the things labelled 'black moors' were little more than fat black commons which were mostly bumping aimlessly around the tank or dotted with ich :( Maidenhead Aquatics's moors were true to type, healthy and obviously very well kept. As other people have mentioned their dry stuff tends to be more expensive but to be perfectly honest I'd pay a little extra just to get their great friendly service. :D

Stapeley is Stapeley Water Gardens in Nantwich. Wizz's right - it's signposted from at least 10 miles away! :D They have The Palms Tropical Oasis too, which is a huge hothouse where they breed all sorts of endangered species on a special zoo programme.
