Python Disenfecting

Recommended Posts

Hey can someone give me some advice? I have one python and will soon have two 55 gallon tanks. I currently have fish in QT with salt and Prazi and have been using buckets and a hand held siphon (old school) because I do not want my current tank to get a fluke (or any other nasty) outbreak. Will I eventually (or now) use one python for both tanks? I am afraid of any cross contamination. Is there a way to disinfect it so I can use it on both tanks? Can flukes stick to plastic? I do a lot of water changes (sometimes 3 times a week) and do not want to bleach it between tanks. Or am I going to have to break down and buy another? Advise is appreciated!

I use my python for all my tanks, except the QT (I use a handheld siphon for that too). I just regularly prazi all my tanks at the same time 2x a year now after having multiple fluke issues. I rinse the hose with really hot water between each tank too and make sure to get all the water out between water changes so that the tubing can dry all the way too.

That's an awesome idea! Thanks! Yeah I think I will Prazi the big tank again so they are all on the same schedule.

Every few months, you can also pull in through the tubing a solution of bleach, and let the tube disinfect for about 15 minutes. Then run it through thoroughly with water. :)

I do the hot water method too when I switch between main tank and QT :)

I've just ran hot water through the tubing for about 8 minutes or so. Granted I've never had to qt a sick fish. I have used prazi just because my fish were new.
