Yes, blood worms are superb for wen growth. Also, look for food that contains (a good deal) of methionine.

Frozen bloodworms and ProGold work well. Remember, too, that genetics and time are also factors.

And maybe a little luck! ;)

Is progold or hikari lion head better??

For your fish, the Hikari. Pro-Gold pellets are a tad bigger, and has less protein. It can be a pellet that you choose, but the HL is better, with nearly 50% protein.

I recently added HL to the staple list, and I am so very pleased with it. (Thanks, Jared!)

HL is a sinking pellet?

Yes, it's quite nice. I was turned off by Saki Hikari, so I didn't pursue any other Hikari goldfish foods. Recenlty jmetzger72 brought it into discussion, so I went and bought it. I am loving it so far. More importantly, the fish go crazy for it.

I am loving the Hikari lionhead pellets. It's awesome. I've been using this for a few weeks and the frozen bloodworms for about a month. I have seen a lot of wen growth in my Red Cap since I've been using these two combined. I say stay with your pellets and get the frozen blood worms.

Alex: I love your comments here re: this topic especially since I have these two. :)

I used to feed hikari lionhead exclusivley until my LFS stopped carrying the hikari goldfish line. I'm almost out of pelleted food (and repashy) so I'll probably pick it up next time I order. Although I kind of want to take my chances with a floating pellet so I can monitor feeding better in the pond.

I think you should definitely give floating foods a try. I think Shakaho's been using them for her pond fancies.

If you get HL, don't forget tastyworms.com has them, and at the cheapest prices!
