dnalex 13,633 Posted July 11, 2013 Why is it transparent, David? Some random mutation?
GoldenSpoiledRotten 6,786 Posted July 11, 2013 I wonder exactly what's going on here... and if they'll stay that way. It's really interesting,

ichthius 122 Posted July 11, 2013 Why is it transparent, David? Some random mutation? Complete lack of guanine. Some calico lines have this in a percentage of the pink mattes. Most pink mattes retain guanine in the peritoneum but it is lacking here. It could be a separate gene that is linked to calico or it could be fish that are completely homozygous across the tetraploid chromosomes for calico.
bodoba 2,980 Posted July 12, 2013 Thank you very much for that explanation! I remember a few years ago the mention of glassfish (a name of transparent goldfish) and I'm glad to see that they are finally coming to other countries. Being calico is must take some effort to strengthen this to breed true. Good work!
