Betta with fin rot?

Hi there,

sorry, wasn't here for such a long time. Life got busy...

Just got this new betta today. He looked so sad in his dirty little cup. The cup said he's an elephant ear betta, but his fins look really bad, like fin rot.

Not sure if the link works. haven't done this in a while :)

He's in a 2.5 Gallon tank right now, that I just set up this morning. I can get test readings if you need them.

Any ideas how to make this guy feel better?

Thank you .

Thanks :)

Haven't used cycled media. Only had the media from the goldie tank and wasn't sure if that's safe?

If your GF tank is healthy, you can certainly use the media from there. Just keep your eyes on your parameters to make sure removing some media doesn't cause a cycle bump in your GF tank.

Please fill out the form at the top of this page so we can help you out with him. :)

The tank is a 2.5 gallon, temp 79

Ammonia 0

Nitrites 0

Nitrates seem to be between 0 and 5, but closer to 5

Thanks for your help. I'll do that. :) No salt or anything?

Tail looks pretty short, but he perked up quite a bit since he got out of that cup, where he was just lying on his side. He's swimming around and looks happy. :)

You can use salt, but first try water changes every day for a week at 20% to keep the water very clean for him. The conditions in the cup are what has probably caused any rot, so really it shouldn't be that difficult to get rid of :)
