Regular Member Kerstin Posted July 5, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 5, 2013 Hi there, sorry, wasn't here for such a long time. Life got busy... Just got this new betta today. He looked so sad in his dirty little cup. The cup said he's an elephant ear betta, but his fins look really bad, like fin rot. Not sure if the link works. haven't done this in a while He's in a 2.5 Gallon tank right now, that I just set up this morning. I can get test readings if you need them. Any ideas how to make this guy feel better? Thank you .
Regular Member fantailfan1 Posted July 5, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 5, 2013 It might be helpful to have the form filled out, even though the tank was just set up. Did you have cycled media to use? Thanks. Oh, he's a handsome guy BTW.
Regular Member Kerstin Posted July 6, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) Thanks Haven't used cycled media. Only had the media from the goldie tank and wasn't sure if that's safe? Edited July 6, 2013 by Kerstin
Regular Member fantailfan1 Posted July 6, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2013 If your GF tank is healthy, you can certainly use the media from there. Just keep your eyes on your parameters to make sure removing some media doesn't cause a cycle bump in your GF tank. Please fill out the form at the top of this page so we can help you out with him.

Regular Member fantailfan1 Posted July 6, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2013 How does the tail look? I think the best treatment for betta finrot is pristine water, with lots of WCs.
Regular Member Kerstin Posted July 6, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2013 Thanks for your help. I'll do that. No salt or anything? Tail looks pretty short, but he perked up quite a bit since he got out of that cup, where he was just lying on his side. He's swimming around and looks happy.
Regular Member Narny105 Posted July 7, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 7, 2013 You can use salt, but first try water changes every day for a week at 20% to keep the water very clean for him. The conditions in the cup are what has probably caused any rot, so really it shouldn't be that difficult to get rid of
