My Traditional Celebratory Birthday Fish (PIC HEAVY)

Yesterday was my 34th birthday & following in tradition we drove up to the big aquatic store 45 minutes north seeking my traditional celebratory birthday fish. It was my lucky day because they didn't just have a couple big tanks of little bitty or huge fancies...they had 20 big tanks of all different kinds ranging in sizes. Saw some really huge Ranchus & Bubble Eyes...however I was looking for smaller fish to grow up myself. The last time I was there there was a fish in the same batch as the my Dusty that had a forehead that was so clear like glass you could see what was goin' on inside. At that point I was totally creeped out by it & the woman that helped me wrangle up Dusty said they were having trouble selling that fish because it was pretty much creepin' everyone out. Later, after coming home with the fish I got then, I was sorta kickin' myself for not having just brought that one home with me too. Yesterday, it was still there...a lil bigger...head just slightly less see thru...I took it as fate & decided that since it was my birthday, I was bringing the creepy fish home with me. It is rather a pretty fish...& a sibling of Dusty's so I'm not too concerned about it's weirdness anymore. & then there were lionheads...sooo many baby Lionheads...from the same breeder as the last 2 I got (Pumpkin & Goblin) but not the same batch...so, after watching the fish for about 45 minutes, I picked out the 2 I wanted and had all 3 of my fish bagged up.

Currently these 3 are QTed...but beyond that I've got 2-150 gals, an 88 gal (shubunkins), 3-55 gals (One was recently resealed & is currently housing 4 mystery snails), a 37 gal which I'm using as the QT currently & a 10 as an alternate QT...and each of by male bettas, of which there are 2, have their own 5 gal bachelor pads. Also 3 fry tubs. I have a really big house...plenty of room for fish!

I'm actually planning on trading out all my 55's for 150's but I like it better when tanks are on sale. I had the one...but when that 55 popped the side seal and started leaking, that weekend I went out and replaced the 55 and got the second 150. Right now, the fish in the 55's are still small enough I can wait a bit for another sale to upgrade them. Also, right this second I do not have any plans to get any more fish. I have a nice, rounded collective now. And the majority of the fry I have in the tubs are single tails & goin' to live in a friend's 865 gallon pond.

Oh wow. When you get the 150's are you going to get three, or transfer all the 55 dwellers into one or two of those?

Must be a ton of work but I bet it's worth it!

The little lionheads are so cute! Is the first one an oranda? His coloring is very unique looking :P

To my knowledge it's just a regular fantail. It's forehead is a lil indented tho...like it didn't form quite right. still a cutie tho...and has great coloring.

yeah, looking at at least one more 150...& possibly keeping up one of the 55's. Altho I've also considered upgrading the shubunkin tank to a 150 as well. Their tank holds 88 gallons but it's more on the tall side than long...they should have more length...& I think they would enjoy the extra space to chase each other around...plus then I could add a couple more to it...for right now tho, they're ok where they are with like 20 gallons per shub.

Happy Birthday! Very nice fishes. Watch fish 1 turn out to the the beauty in your collection.

I haven't named it yet...but I have been calling it Silver...I already have had one if it's sibling for almost 2 months, Dusty, who was all dull coppery color & silvery white when I got it now is very bright orange and white and black. I'm guessing this one will end up bright as well. I should do a pic comparison between the two as they are now.

Okay, I thought I was going to be creeped out by an ugly looking fish and I was getting myself prepared to see something gross. ha ha I saw nothing of the sorts. You have some cuties. Congrats on your new fish and Happy Birthday. I think that is awesome of you to get that fish that you saw there last year. I can't believe it was still there. Wow!

I would like to make a request for you to video tape all of your fish tanks in 1 video. :D Please. Do you have a fish room or are they all scattered around in different rooms? I think it would be neat to give us a tour of tanks and fish. :please I think I would feel like I'm at some kind of neat fish store. Include a huge scan.
