melindapaolino 0 Posted June 25, 2013 My magneto is having real issues and im scared to death. I found him stuck to the filter and there where bubbles all over his body, so im thinking his slime coat is damaged. I have turned the filters off for now. Last night I forgot to add prime to my water and didn't realize untill maybe a couple of hours later. Today I found him really lethargic and floaty. I have noticed some brown spots on him as well, though I was assuming those where ammonia burns healing. I do 50% w/c every week and unfortunately I am over stocked. I have 1 fish in a 10-12 gal tank and that has worked for me for about a year. I am unable to get a bigger tank at the moment. Please help me I'm terrified for him Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank)- less than .25 * Nitrite Level(Tank)- 0 * Nitrate level(Tank)- 0ish * Ammonia Level(Tap)- less than .25 * Nitrite Level(Tap)- 0 * Nitrate level(Tap)- not sure, but last time a checked 0 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? tithra 4,917 Posted June 25, 2013 would you mind doing an updated video if his behavior is different from the video you just posted? Was he floaty previous to being stuck on the filter, or did that start after you found him? Were there any symptoms prior to him being stuck on the filter (bottom sitting, flashing, clamped fins, lethargy etc.)? Can you please provide pH readings for tap and tank? where are the brown spots located? Is he pooping normally? how does his poo look?
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 I will defiantly do an update video when I get home from work. He was never floaty previous to being stuck on the filter. He also didn't have any symptoms except for the brown spots which are located down on the sides of his belly. His poop has always looked the same, brown and full (lol) not stringy or white. When I left for work he seemd okay, he's just swimming a little strangely, he's not floaty anymore and he hasn't lost his apitite.
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 http://s1123.photobucket.com/user/ohbbyxohbby/media/IMG_0217_zps3ac3834a.mp4.html Thats my update video, Hes not looking too bad! I changed 25% of my water before I left and remembered to prime it. I'm thinking im just gonna do 25% waterchanges every day for awhile.
tithra 4,917 Posted June 26, 2013 He looks much better. I think daily water changes and keeping an eye on him for a few days is a good plan. It does concern me why he got stuck to the filter in the first place though. Healthy goldfish do not get stuck to filter intakes. Have you ever treated for flukes? could you give us pH readings for tap and tank? (whenever there is excess slime coat on a fish, pH is a concern)
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 I kept getting weird readings for ph... the first few times the regular ph was bright bright blue basically a false reading because that color isn't on the sheet and the high ph test would be bright purple, and I know its not that high. I re tested a few times and finally I completely cleaned a tube and the high range test came out at 7.4-7.8... so normal right? I cant test my tap ph just now but last time i checked a couple months ago it was pretty soft... like 6.3-6.7 :/
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 Oops! and yes he was treated for flukes when i first got him almost a year ago.
shakaho 6,312 Posted June 26, 2013 Tithra, she said in the first post that she forgot to add Prime and didn't realize it for a few hours. That was when she found him ill. It could have been coincidence, but chlorine poisoning is the first suspect. Melinda, chlorine damages gills. If chlorine damage is the cause of the illness, the improvement is encouraging.
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 I'm happy to hear that. I sort of hate myself for doing this to him haha, but im trying my best to keep his water sparkly clean.
fantailfan1 26,742 Posted June 26, 2013 . I've done that before also. Don't beat yourself up. You realized your mistake and are doing good by him now. He looks much better in the second video. How is he now?

motherredcap 6,284 Posted June 26, 2013 He's a doll, Melinda, and I hope he is continuing to do better. You've had him for a year? Have you tried varying what he eats a bit, perhaps some veggies and bloodworms, cooked egg white?
melindapaolino 0 Posted June 26, 2013 He looks so good this morning Ive had his for less than a year I just dont remember what month I got him in, but it was definitely after summer ended, i was just rounding. Right now im only feeding him the soilent green because in the past he wouldn't eat veggies he would just spit them out... but i was thinking about picking up bloodworms/other creepy crawlies from the pet store.. the freeze dried kind lol. I havent tried egg whites though!

It must have just been the lack of water conditioner If you get worms, don't get freeze dried - these are rough on the goldie digestive system and can cause issues like constipation. Get the frozen ones. Hikari frozen blood worms are a great choice
