Regular Member Mikey Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 What happened to it? Is it fixable?
Regular Member fantailfan1 Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 Looks like your fish got to it. Bob does that to all of mine, usually one at a time. That's his snack for between meals. I've never attempted to fix it.
Regular Member Mikey Posted June 20, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 They haven't touched it though . It was somewhat coming apart when I got it, but it was the best one that my LFS got in from the distributor. I guess I could put something round around it and a rubber band?
Regular Member Erica Stolte Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 I wonder if putting it into a mesh filter bag would help.
Regular Member Mikey Posted June 20, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 Ping pong ball. Will it re-attach?
Regular Member GoldenSpoiledRotten Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 I would not use a ping pong ball. There's air trapped in there and if water got in it would become stagnant, not to mention the plastic maybe being unsafe.
Regular Member Mikey Posted June 20, 2013 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 I didn't use it. I was like wait there is air in here, it's going to float. So I just bunched it back together and put it in my tank. Maybe it will regrow?
Regular Member Jellyballoo Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 Roll it in your hands daily, they only grow about 2 millimetres a year or something so it will take a while till it starts to grow together properly

Regular Member Chai Posted June 20, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 They may only grow approx 5mm per year, but what you need here is for it to sort of "pull itself back together" which it should do by itself soon enough. Just give it a VERY gentle roll every other day, keep the water clean and keep it away from any strong currents and of course, your fish! Good luck, Mikey.

Regular Member the.koi.maiden Posted June 26, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted June 26, 2013 That actually happened to some of my marimo. Goldfish can be nasty tankmates for them. I tied them up with fishing line to help give them a little more shape. Some daily rolling and good water and now they are doing much better! I also removed mine from the goldfish tank because the goldies were just a bit too rough with them. Maybe you want to consider keeping your marimo in a separate little bowl.
