  • Bottom sitting, not as active as usual. She has been dropsied in the past

So once again I am having issues with my problem child dexy. She has been laying around the tank, and hardly breathing. I haven't changed anything with how I take care of the tank recently. She perks up a bit when I offer food, and will also eat a bit, but then goes right back to the bottom of the tank. She was 'headstanding' behind the air hose yesterday until I righted her. She seemed to do a little better after the 50% water change yesterday. The other two fish seem to be doing great on the other hand.

There have been a few issues/changes lately however:

The temp here in New Mexico has been rising lately keeping the tank at about 75- 78F

The ph has gone from 7.5 from the tap and tank originally to 8.2

I added two mangroves from Acro and a corkscrew val (which was soaked in PP before addition)

My tank is a barebottom but I do have plants rooted in glass votives with laterite as a substrate. The mangroves are also planted in laterite. I'll get some pictures and a video posted ASAP

Thanks everyone!

April 6 was the most recent final treatment of Prazi. Do you think the PH is alright for them?

Sorry my 2 minute video is going to take an hour and a half to upload through YouTube :(

This is the mangrove box

So it looks like dexy is trying to pinecone around he tail base a little. I just felt her tummy when I moved her out of the plant she was stuck in (tried to get up, then stopped and sank) and its hard. I didn't feel much give. She's looks to be hardly breathing too... What should I do?

Thanks. We want a frame of reference for the scales. :)

Let's see what happens tomorrow, but I am thinking that you will need Metro-Meds. I will want to treat with Prazi while on the MMs as well.

How is appetite?

Sure thing! Thank you!

Ok, so leave her be until tomorrow? Should I feed her the nightly spinach or repashy?

The appetite was ok this morning. She would get up for a piece, then lay down and chew

Ok! So she responded to food. She perked up for a few seconds when I gave her the first piece of spinach. She chewed for a second mid tank, then floated back down to the bottom. The second little piece she stuck her head up, but didn't move around too much. She looked like she was having some issues chewing, but didn't spit it out. The only reason why I saw issues is because when she's well she is a super fast eater. Tonight she looked like it was taking some effort to chew..

I'm sorry you're having problems with poor little Dexy. I don't have anything to add, except I'm in love with your fish! She's gorgeous.

Fins crossed for a speedy recovery x

Thank you so much Black! She's my oldest (problem!) child. She's my big baby :D

Prazi can wait until tomorrow. I want a little head start with the antibiotics.

Sounds good! She ate the MM's. I let them soak in fish water until soft, and she was able to get them down with some chewing!

So Dexy is doing really well today! I gave her a dose of MM's last night and some this morning. When I checked on her this morning, she was no longer laying on the ground. She was still kinda floating there, but she had put some distance between her and the ground. She happily accepted more food MMs, and since eating again appears to have more energy! Her scales still look a little raised so I'm preparing the QT tank now!

Sounds good!

I am a little concerned now; my ryukin is starting to bottom sit and act like she did yesterday :(. He seemed ok this morning, but now he's laying around, dorsal flat and not really breathing too well.

No, not at all. He's been absolutely fine until this morning. My dad said he was bottom sitting before I woke up but he was fine during food time. He started laying down in the exact spot that she was... Do I have psychosomatic fish?
