great_kahn 109 Posted May 20, 2013 Had my fancies for 6 months now. Fishler my oranda has grown amazingly, thunder chunk the ranchu has grown less by comparision but has really filled out. I mashed this photo together to show just how much bigger they got. With help on this forum they got off to the best possible start and have been fine and healthy. Only real problem was a powercut earlier in the year, power was off in the tank for maybe 48 hours while i was away over the weekend, they both were very close to death or in hibernation due to the cold. Luckily once the power was back on they both perked up as if nothing had happened and the cycle remained intact.

kaylaj2355 464 Posted May 21, 2013 That is SO awesome how you did those photos! Ugh, that power outage thing happened to me once when I just had Merlin, my red cap. It was terrible. 7 days with no heat, so Merlin had to live in a pitcher in my office. He's a trooper.

great_kahn 109 Posted May 21, 2013 That is absolutely incredible growth! What is the secret? Thanks for comments everyone. No real secret. There primary diet is repashy soilent green, 2-3 times a day. I usually feed as much as they can eat in 5-10 mins. I don't really buy the few minute advice guidlines. They get bloodworm every other day, blanched veg every now and then. Plus my tank is heavily planted, so they are constantly pulling bit of them and eating the algae etc. Rubbish pic, but gives you an idea of the planting level. I am currently blighted with black hair alagae, so im heavily cropping the affected plants... most annoying.

great_kahn 109 Posted May 21, 2013 There constantly picking at it. If you look at warm pond grown fancies, they always have the best growth rate due to constant food source.
