Does anyone know where you can buy potassium permanganate? I need to clean out a very algaey tank and filter before I put it in storage (that's what you use right??). Thanks!

PS sorry if this is on the forum somewhere, I'm on my phone!

I guess I might have to order it online or check a pool store in the summer because I can't find it in store anywhere! :(

I usually take the ebay route for this too. The seller "koiclay1" has some, I think. That's the guy I got my koi clay from, and he was a real peach to deal with. ;)

I got mine from Sears. Ask in the appliance dept . . . that's where mine was.

I had no idea! LOL

I got mine from my LFS. These people have everything lol

I asked at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, and Kmart (who all had pot perm online), but no one has it in store :(

Ebay!

My sears etc. sells it, but I didn't want a lifetime supply :P

Here is what I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/POTASSIUM-PERMANGANATE-99-1-Lb-Lab-koi-pond-Chemical-/200920666239?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec7ce107f

Still a lifetime supply, but less than those big jugs sold at sears.

Thanks everyone! I ended up just using some Simple Green and rinsing it out really well. I'll have to order some pot perm off eBay since that seems to be the best place! :thumbup2:

Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning out a U-shaped plastic intake tube? I didn't have anything to reach around the bends and get all the algae out...

THIS IS PERFECT! I need both of these :)

I get PP from Walmart, in the fish section it's called clear water or something similar made by jungle, it's in a smallish yellow bottle.

Thank you, I will check there first! I knew someone had to have it

Yepp =]

Its not obviously labeled but the main and only ingredient is PP!

Good Luck!

I wonder how concentrated it is? That's the nice thing about the powder is you can tailor the concentration to your needs

I'd use bleach.

I thought of that, but I think in order for it to do any good, I'd have to let it soak long enough for the bleach to harden the plastic :/
