GoldPigs 10 Posted April 19, 2013 Are there any good places to buy goldfish online in Australia? Just wondering cause I can never find any really nice goldfish at my LFS (I mean the standard of goldfish you see here) The LFS only seem to have comets and fantails which there is nothing wrong with but they don't have much variety
tassiegold 11 Posted April 20, 2013 Have a look on livefish.com.au.....they do online fish sales. I haven't had any experience with them...so can't comment on their service.
Narny105 1,992 Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) I've ordered shrimp from livefish.com.au having no success. They all died, and they weren't very good quality. You might have a completely different experience though. The thing I don't like is that you don't know what you're getting, other than the type of fish. I haven't found many places, but fishchick aquatics sells goldfish and specialises in importing show bettas, and her fish are of superb quality, and are put in pretty decent conditions. She advertises most goldfish and bettas on her youtube channel, and she will ship all around Aus. She's located in Brisbane, and I've been in her store a few times for bettas. She's great! All of her goldfish are around $100 $160 though, and most bettas around $50-$70 depending on the type of betta Edited April 20, 2013 by Narny105
Jellyballoo 114 Posted April 21, 2013 I ordered two goldfish from livefish.com.au Approx $15 each They aren't the best quality Two goldies from petsNstuff.com.au Also approx $15 each Also not the best quality And I got 3 fish from fishchicks Cheapest was $37 most expensive was $295 Excellent quality with a price tag to match lol

Jellyballoo 114 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) Narny, what type of goldfish is she selling for that much??? I've only ever seen her betta's which are gorgeous! I bought two red and black orandas and a black TVR She also has ryukins, last time I went there she had a jinkin (sp?) I think most of her goldies are from Thailand Edited April 21, 2013 by Jellyballoo
Andrea 23 Posted April 22, 2013 I've looked on her youtube channel, but must have missed the goldfish or not paid enough attention haha.
Daniel 5,668 Posted April 22, 2013 I've looked on her youtube channel, but must have missed the goldfish or not paid enough attention haha. Andrea, I'm with you, I've never noticed goldfish on her Youtube channel. Alex, does she advertise them on her channel?
Narny105 1,992 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) She does not advertise them nearly as much as her bettas, which is what she initially specialised in. But here's some videos of hers Here are her pricings for these fish: Beautiful Chinese Ryukin Goldfish. Large Broadtail Ryukin = $150ea Small Ryukin = $24.95ea Large Calico Ranchu = $165 These ranchu were sold for $185 each Aand, the most expensive I've seen of hers: Prices for these ones: $375 for the red and white orandas $295 for the black oranda I personally would never buy these fish for that amount, because I don't think the price matches the quality. I got my red caps for $50 each, and my Ryukin for $45, which is standard pricing for the majority of chain pet stores that sell goldfish. However, that being said, I would buy her ranchu She doesn't advertise all of her goldfish, but when I went in store to view them, she only had around 30 goldfish total. She has a huge amount of bettas though in her betta section. The store is heated, so the bettas are all in good conditions, with water changes weekly Edited April 22, 2013 by Narny105
Helen 8,511 Posted April 22, 2013 if anyone's in Melbourne, my supplier has show quality fish at good prices, no need to pay shipping and transport is as rough as you drive/ride.

In Nov 2011 we brought in a large shipment of Thai high end ranchus (svr) orandas and young tvrs ( 24 x) thru' her. She lost 21 of our tvrs at her premises due to some "mysterious" parasitic infestations.(won't even show us all the pics of the dead ones) Luckily our svr and oranda got to Perth safely. Alex should remember this. Anyway I agreed her gold fish pricing are a huge rip off. They don't look that great either. Note: Those are definitely not TVRs and there is no such thing as a black TVR. Andrea 23 Posted April 23, 2013 I've seen fish very similar to that out my way for much cheaper. They are lovely fish but yeah I wouldn't pay that much and I'm a bit scared of getting a fish shipped to me. I just don't think I would personally ever do it, but that's just me

I just don't think I would personally ever do it, but that's just me Lucky, the majority of fish stores have since closed out my way, it's really quite depressing actually. I have heard there's a really good store out Asquith way and somewhere further north up around Lismore (I think from memory), but the latter is so far away from Sydney that it hardly seems worth the voyage. Jellyballoo 114 Posted April 23, 2013 There's a trans aquarium in Sydney that imports Chinese goldfish and there's another aquarium around the corner from that that apparently has nice goldies too

Guess it depends on what part of Sydney you are from. I've heard some good things about some fish shops in places like Surry Hills, Auburn, etc but never been. One fish shop near me has often got quite good goldies in, rare types occasionally, but not all the time. Their saltwater fish standard/care is really slipping lately so I'm becoming a bit wary of them however.

I've heard a few good things about Aquadisiac in Surry Hills, but have never been in there. It looks nice from the outside though. Jelly, I looked up Trans Aquarium, I remember seeing them on Burke's Backyard when I was younger. I don't go into Cabramatta/Canley Vale often, but next time I'm out that way I'll have to check them out.
Jellyballoo 114 Posted April 23, 2013 I have never been because I'm from brizzy lol Just heard they were good, cheap and you get to catch your own fish!
Helen 8,511 Posted April 23, 2013 on line sales and shipping Aus wide, however, generic pics used so you don't know the fish you're actually buying. http://www.fishworld.com.au/cms.php?id_cms=10 apparently they're in Melbourne these guys seem to give a better option to online AU buyers.. http://www.livefish.com.au/tropicals/goldfish.html at least some of what they offer are pictures of what you're actually buying (but i am not sure that this is true as i see two fantails, separate listings, different sizes, but same pic). they seem better organized and apparently shipping is $16.50 per package wether you buy 1 or 1000 fish.. so the shipping disclosure says.. here's one in NSW that ships out also http://www.majesticaquariums.com.au/live-fish/goldfish this is where i got "snag" from.. my white chu with orange lips.. if anyone remembers her http://shop.coburgaquarium.com.au/ they're in VIC and do not ship all over AU.. but to some neighbouring States only. anyhow. they're just a few examples to try or for possible discussions
Andrea 23 Posted April 24, 2013 I checked out livefish and got the impression they were just generic photos, which I just find very strange and I don't like it. It's good if you can't get good fish near you or a particular type, but besides that I would always like to personally pick my own fish and see it before I buy it! Good to have all those links though Helen
