I don't currently have a bare bottom.... but here are some of my past incarnations of a bare bottom tank :P

I rarely ever say poo in my bare bottom tank, I actually see more poo in the substrate now than I ever did with a bare bottom. The only issue was poo getting trapped under rocks or behind pots where there wasn't good water circulation. I just made sure to move these at every water change and clean behind and under them.

Ok- now I know I am a total weirdo, as I had ZERO reaction at all to hearing, reading, saying, or otherwise being exposed to the term "bare bottom". LOL. :fbottom:

Make sure the fish are out, and use a wet/dry shop vac, if you've got it. ;)

Alright, here she is! :P Adding a black background when I get some tape. Didn't realize I didn't have tape...seriously, who doesn't have tape? Anyway:

The water is way too low because I wasn't prepared, but that'll be fixed tomorrow :D

Does everyone with a bare bottom tank paint the base black?

?? Are you talking about the trim that is around the tank it self? cause most tanks come with a black trim these days .. :)

No I mean the actual outside base of the tank

I got my new goldy tank (finally)

And I want to try bare bottom but I don't want the white foam underneath the tank to show threw.

my other goldfish tank has a thin layer of fine gravel and afew large white stones

By the way everyone's tanks look great :D

Here is mine, covered in algae lol. I dont see a lot of poo either. Unless its fresh lol ew but then it gets sucked up the filter. I too just move everything around during a water change to get whatever is under or behind my rocks and bubble wand. Now the algae i just have been too lazy to deal with the other day when i did my water change, just like my background still looks bad. I am surprised at how fast the bottom is getting covered.

Do you mean the bottom (glass) of the tank and you don't want to see through the bottom underneath the tank? The bottom will look like a mirror and you won't see through underneath it . . . :idont

BEAUTIFUL TANK! I love the change, and I bet your guys'll love it too. :) :)

I didn't paint mine black. I used a textured spray paint (on the OUTSIDE of the tank), and made it look like a sandy bottom. I sprinkle those glass marbles over that, and I think it looks quite nice. :)`
