So i took it apart (i have 2 filters this is my other one). I rinsed everything in old tank water and i still have water left in the filter so the the BB wont die. Here's how everything looks like:

Just looks like old food and/or poop and/or accumulated slime. Should be fine to get rid of it. Swipe out with a paper towel. :)

I bet there is a nice coating of beneficial bacteria on the walls. May be you could just rinse out the junk?

With that I wouldnt scub it out or anything... just rinse your filter floss and let that be for now.. the only time I will wipe the inside of mine down is if its got brown gunk build up in it.. :)

Like others have said, If its brown gunk, you could rinse it out or wipe it out. Once a month I do take a toothbrush around my impeller to make sure it can keep spinning and not get clogged up. Also the intake tube should be scrubbed out as any build up will slow down water flow into the filter box.
