Python water changer

Hiya!

So I was wondering... I was looking at getting a Python for easier siphoning, and I noticed that it said it can pump water straight from the tap. I was wondering how that would work with the chlorine in the water and all. Can you just add the amount of water condition needed straight to the tank and then fill? I use buckets to change my aquarium water so I dose the buckets individually.

Thanks in advance for the insight!

When you dose water conditioner using a Python, you dose enough for the whole tank, not just the amount of water changed. For example, if you have a 50 gallon tank, you dose for 50 gallons (1 capful if using Prime) whether you're doing a 25% or 75% water change. :D

Just make sure to match temp and that your tap and tank pH are within a reasonable amount for the amount of water you're changing out so as not to change pH too drastically. :D

(You probably know that but I wouldn't want you getting overzealous with your new toy! :rofl )

I'm pretty lucky in the sense that my PH is almost exactly the same in the tap vs. tank :D. The temp is something I need to figure out though :( . The tap is pretty cold here and I worry about whats lurking in the water heater  . Thanks for reminding me!

I felt the same way at the start, scary. Its actually quite handy! I just wish mom would let me use it again! Just add the glorious chemical into the tank and rev up that hose!

Oh I know! I'm super excited :panana !

I couldn't have survived water changes without my Pythons. I can't believe I ever used to lug heavy buckets around!

Ugh I know... I have like 9 of them taking up space in my closet right now... Those 5 gallon buckets are heavy, even with help!

I have a Python and Its my Goldfish Water Changer Friend.... :) I will drain the tank with the hose leading out the house. Then when I go to fill the tank, I place my Amquel (this is what I use you can use any kind of water conditioner) in the tank then I start the water, making sure the temp matches my tanks temp :) Then I add in while its filling my Buffers :)

I love my python... but I'm sad to say that after 10 years of using the same one, an adapter finally snapped!

Going to invent myself a way to fix it without ordering a whole new python though lol

I know! I'm so excited :D. I just hope they hurry up and send it soon!

How do you go about matching the tank temp? Just turn on the hot water slightly too? I ask because I always thought that there were all kinds of sediment in heater water :sick

Thanks guys!!!

I went through the DIY forum but the only portion I saw being discussed was the tap adapter; the piece that snapped for me is what connects the gravel vac portion to the rest of the hose

Blurry pic lol

You might want to try checking on eBay. I accidentally dropped my Python onto a hardwood floor last year, and a part cracked and started leaking. I found a replacement part on eBay for under $10.

Not fair mom won't let me do it again. :-( Explains why I do less changes among my tanks. Been at least a month since for the Malawi tank (thankfully it evaporate so slowly).

Aw no bueno! How come she wont let you use one? It seems like it would be easier on everyone :)

She complain that fish water go into the filter. I tell her the water if filtered clean. Even if I drain outside and use sink to fill, she doesn't want me to unscrew the facuet and mess it up.
