I love it. is that a trickle filter in the plant boxes? How do you keep your bbs going if it's not running?

Bacteria don't grow when it's freezing. The survivors will grow again in the spring.

Oh crap! Ya mean I could have put my media in the freezer last spring! :doh11: Not in a million years would I have thought of that!

If the filter isn't running, wouldn't the media dry out, and kill the bbs?

I dont know what will happen to the bacteria etc over the winter. Die probably. Will have to start over in the Spring i imagine. Hopefjlly the fish load wont be a problem as they will be coming out of a period of not eating for months anyway.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. The pond was totally thawed the other day, as it reached a record high for that day of the year. It was mid 50's.

I tried to get some shots of the bigger fish in the deeper water but there was too much reflection from the clouds. Ill keep trying.

The pic below is from the same day as the pic above. As you can see, the ice has backed away from the "fountain" significantly in the matter of several hours, even though it has been several degrees below freezing all day. It was sunny today, which no doubt helps.

It has been unseasonably warm here. Was in the 40's yesterday but now its 14* with a windchill of 1*. The low for tonight is 5* if i recall correctly. Single digit temps at night and in the teens during the day most of this week. Should be a good test to see if the water will stay even partly open.

That's some major freezing :o

Oh yeah, it's been super chilly today in Michigan. Went out for groceries earlier and just the walk around the block from my car left my cheeks stinging and my legs numb from the wind. XD

Well, things arent looking to great today! I was out plowing snow last night and saw a low of -1* and a windchill of-15*. Here is how it looks now. Its freezing over in a dome shape. The water is still flowing up a couple inches below the surface under the dome. 9* outside now.
