Aquaclear 110/500

Recommended Posts

I just got my Aquaclear 110 in today for the new 55 gallon tank, and it's HUGE!

I was amazed at just how big it was, because I figured it'd be like, four of the 30's or so, but it's like eight of them stacked together!

But! I have a question. Right now the 110 is on the 55 with my old 30, running together until the 110 has cycled properly. Can I run the 110 with all of my biological media in it, out of both filters, and just use the 30 to run water past a bunch of pothos and bamboo?

Of course you can, although I think you will need something to block the roots from messing with your impeller.

Will a layer of gravel in the bottom help?

Otherwise, maybe a plastic card slid down the side, or even just it's media basket?

I just plopped them in, on top a halved (heightwise) sponge, and they stayed. You could probably use filter padding too. Don't know that I'd put gravel in the filter though, I'd be afraid it'd end up lodged in the impeller somehow.

Oh, you can just use the filter sponge? That's easy enough!

110's are the best. Alex's advice about the roots are key! Good luck.
