I gave some wrong info on shelf life of goldfish food...............after opening food MUST BE used in 6mos or fats and oils can go rancid............even if frozen...............so if you have some "old" food throw it away.............for the health of your goldies and other fish, frogs, newts, snails, etc...................

Deb, you are too funny...I don't think you said anything wrong.

The 6 month guideline is just a convenience thing, and is a good conservative estimate of how long your food will last. It probably lasts longer, but then rancidity becomes a concern.

As for storage, I still think that the best place to store the food is in a cool, dry place and not necessarily the freezer, where you can get freezer burns.

I try not to keep them for longer than three months at the most, and usually aim to make enough to last only for one month. One of the reasons why I switched to Repashy gel is that I can make just enough to keep in the fridge for about a week, and never have to deal with freezing
