Eye injury?

Recommended Posts

I have lived in fear of Armande hurting his eye since I got him. And it seems he has managed it. :|

I can't handle anything happening to little Armande, especially not after losing Fifi recently. I will just die.

I have him in quarantine, I want to make sure his eye is injured and get help treating it.

You can see the small spot of red at the bottom of his eye, and that it is slightly larger than his other eye. These are the best pictures I could get.

Hi, Drowsy,

Is there anything in the tank that he could have bumped his eye into? The red could have been a burst vessel from ammonia, or it could have been the result of physical injury. As you as you keep pristine water, he should be fine. Salting to 0.1% can help, but it's not absolutely required. For eye damages, I am much more inclined to go with lots of pristine water.

The eyes are a bit uneven and shaped a bit differently, but I don't see any cause for alarm there. However, it will be good to hear from others who have a lot of teles to see what they think. :)

Aaah, thank you!

The ammonia is never bad anymore. So I am thinking he hit it on something.

I have a feeling it was the rock cave, the only thing possible he could have. I have been counting the days until Philbert is out of quarantine to put him in a nice safe tank with him.

So just a burst vessel, nothing horrible?

I think so, but the thing with eye injuries is that they do require extremely good water quality in order to heal.

The general rule of thumb for teles is that if there is anything that they can bump into and hurt themselves, they will.

Especially Armande. 8|

He is too adventurous for his own good. He'll be staying in the ten gallon with the daily 100% water changes until he can go into the thirty gallon with Philbert. And then they can be bumpy Teles with each other in their safe tank.
