  1. So my Hubby's been sleeping in the spare room all week due to all the noise the local tree frogs and toads that have found the pond and have decided it's the perfect place to lay their eggs usually the water fall out our bedroom window is peaceful not so much lately anyone got any ideas? This is been our only resident since the pond was first built,he was a little guy who's now huge, and we don't mind him lol thanks for looking
  2. Hello everyone. I tried to put this in the correct category, but I have various questions, I didn't want to start a lot of new threads! On my other post I mentioned how I was upgrading my goldie from a 20tall to a 40 breeder. I was planning on building my own stand, but I found this fantastic deal on craigslist which included the stand, lights, tank, substrate, filter, etc etc etc etc lots of stuff. Anyway, I really wanted the stand and lights so I bought it all! lol. Anything that I don't use I plan on selling, I might even post it here on Kokos, since I got a ridiculous deal on everything it would be very cheap. Now on to my questions: The setup came with tons of Eco Complete. This makes me very tempted to get some plants... very tempted, but I feel like my goldie will destroy everything within the first 20minutes, so I don't know. I might try it anyway, because well, why not? If I do use the substrate... do I clean it? disinfect it? Will it be safe to use in my tank? Can it even be cleaned?? I feel like it will just absorb whatever I clean it with and leach it out into the tank harming my fish. What should I do?? It sounded like the guy got rid of the tank because of various circumstances, nothing to do with disease. Also, the tank had been broken down for a while so the substrate has been dry for a long time, you would think if there was anything living on there it would be dead by now. What would you do? On the topic of disinfecting, the setup came with a fluval 406. I have new sponges I can use, but how would you clean the bio media... bleach? Will I be able to get all the bleach out? What about the canister itself? hoses, canister etc. The other idea would be to not use the fluval, just sell it. I'm running an aquaclear 50 on my 20 gallon... I have another AC50 which "broke" a long time ago... but I honestly don't remember what happened, so I figured I could fix it and run 2 AC50 on the 40B. If I can't fix it I'd just buy another one. What do you think? Should I use the fluval or the aquaclears? I have a canister on my 75 gallon turtle tank... a RENA XP4. It's annoying to clean but that's because it's huuge and heavy when full of water. The fluval is smaller... I dont' know what to do. And finally... the other thing that makes me nervous about the Eco Complete is how to clean it after it's in the tank. I used to have a betta tank... with gravel.... long story short I killed my betta because I guess I wasn't cleaning the gravel well enough, it was nasty down there. I now have sand in all of my tanks. I never want to deal with that again, no matter how much I thought I was cleaning, it wasn't good enough. Now, I've read that people don't gravel vac their planted tanks b/c the plants use the gunk as nutrients, but I just don't think I can do that knowing how much stuff builds up down there. And with the Eco Complete being so dark I'm afraid I won't see all the gunk. Can this substrate even be vacuumed? This might be more of a planted tank question, I can ask this in a separate thread later if I do decide to plant the tank. Thank you all.
