  1. Hello everyone! I’m going to start my first Prazi Pro treatment ever tomorrow and just wanted to make sure, that I’ve understood the measurements according to this http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/105076-schedules-for-the-treatment-of-flukes-etc-using-praziquantel/ correctly, since I’m working with the metric system. I’m working with a 280 L tank. So,… 1 gal = 3,8 L Dosage of salt 5 gal = 19 L 19 L = 1 Tbs salt 280 L = 15 Tbs salt Dosage of prazipro 1 tsp per 20 gal 20 gal = 76 L 280 L = 4 tsp I know it may be easy for others. I just want to do everything right, because 15 Tbs salt sounds a lot to me. Thank you for your help!
  2. HEEELLLLPPP!!! I've been to the fish store (Eddies Aquarium, local mom and pop store in upstate NY) twice in the past 2 days. They tested my water and said the only thing they could see was high nitrAtes. They did the test tube tests, so we had to wait a few minutes there. I posted some pictures on their facebook and they said to try salt and Melafix, and if that didn't show any improvement, then to try the Kanamycin. I got the Kanamycin today because we lost 3 more after the salt and Melafix. Can I just dump it in or do I need to change the water to get rid of the salt and Melafix?
  3. So, I have left the new goldies alone over the weekend to destress (by "alone" I mean I've not started any quarantine procedure), but I plan to start this oncoming week. I just wanted to know, if seasalt meant for cooking is okay to use? I live in UK and haven't seen anything that's be similar to Morton's Canning and Pickling salt. The tub of our sea salt says it is 100% salt, so I assume it is safe to use, but I want to check this just in case.
  4. Hi there! As a newbie one of my greatest concerns is my precious goldfish would get sick. Reading here and there I learned that aquarium salt can be used as a form of treatment for fungus infections. What I read and also saw on Youtube was about giving fish salt dips or baths to help them restore and reinforce their bodies' natural defense. I was wondering, and here goes my question, could I add a teaspoon or two of marine salt to my 20g tank once a month as a prevention measure?I don't have any live plants so I only worry if the salt would mess with the water values or hurt the fish instead of keeping them healthy. Thank you in advance for your answers! M
  5. I'm planning to dose my main tank at .3% salt for parasite issues, and I was wondering if it would be possible to save my rooted plants. I don't have a ton of them, but I'd like to save them all the same. However, it seems that throwing them in a bucket might not work, right? Does anyone have any tips about saving rooted plants when I have to treat the main tank? I have some broad-leafed swords, dwarf sagittaria, and Italian vals.
  6. Hi all, I have had my new oranda, Victoria, in a .3% salt solution for almost 2 weeks now while administering Prazi double doses. She came from Petsmart so I have been following Koko's protocols for QT under questionable circumstances. Other than some surface dancing--I think she associates the surface with food from her flake days--she has been tolerating everything like a champ. I plan to do 4 rounds of Prazi. She is on round 3. How long should I keep her at the current salt concentration, do you think? My other fish had a secondary infection after a full blown Prazi tratment, so I am nervous about parasites in general. Duchess seems to be improving despite some lethargy and her tail issues, though. I am hoping that she is in the clear and that the main tank is healthy. So am I QTing Vickie right? Or is it overkill? I've never QTed before.
  7. Hi, I was treating my goldfish under the Koko teams guidance, and I realised that I have not treated any of my tropical fish for anything. Should I be treating them for ich and with prazi? I bought the tropical the same day I bought the goldfish, and the goldfish had ich. The tank is cycled, but it was an in fish cycle with comets bought from the same shop as above and they were untreated. I have in my 100L tropical tank: 16??? (I cant count them) neon tetras 3 bumble bee gobies 2 bn plecos 6 male sailfin molies 2 male guppies (one very young) 4 female guppies (3 pregnant, maybe 4) Does salt affect any of these fish in concentrations up to 0.3%? Does prazi affect any of these fish?
  8. I recently had surgery so my husband has been feeding my guys. He's been overdoing it a bit so they became constipated . My fault really, I don't bother weighing the food because I can eyeball the correct amount from having done it so often now. Husband is now weighing the food beforehand which I really should have made him do from the beginning . I know the dosage for treating a tank is 1/4 teaspoon per 37.854 liters but I did want to do a quick check on on how long it is safe to leave epsom salt in the tank for? I am assuming for about a week at most or until poop makes an appearance. We have already done the peas and fasting which has helped most of them come right but Munch and Nessie are still floaty (both tend to get constipated easily).
  9. Hello! I'm new here! Nice to meet you. I have a cycled tank, which has been this way for about 2 years (26 gallon, 1 fish) I brought home an Oranda yesterday and put him/her in a 10 gallon, I really don't want to contaminate my other fish in any way.. So I've done research on here and I need advice to make sure I'm doing this properly... Here is what I'm doing right now: -100% daily water change -Added cycled media from my main tank to the filter -0.1% salt, planning on going up to 0.2% or 0.3% (How long should I use salt for?) -Added Prazipro yesterday, and today after WC. (How many days in a row can I add prazi in? Do I give ''breaks'' to the treatment?) -Observing behavior, eating, poo...etc. Is there anything else I need to do? He is my setup right now... Thanks in advance !!!
  10. So I have finished a week of salt with my two new fish after just over a week or so without salt so they have been in quarantine for nearly three weeks. I upped the salt every 12 hours from 0.1 - 0.2 and then finally 0.3 but now the fish have been salted for one week how do I remove the salt do I just fill the tank with no slat and just fresh water or do I take 0.1 away every 12 hours by using less salt?? any advice will be grateful thanks
  11. Hi all. After a spate of activity before the Thanksgiving weekend, I have not blogged for a while. I added 2 more White Cloud Mountain minnows and the school is much more cohesive. I still think more would be better, but I'm stopping for now. I think they are happy because there seems to be breeding behavior between the 4 females and 2 males...(the 7th fish has not revealed its gender to me!) We added another goldfish - Hercule Poirot, a little black and orange fantail. Yes, he has a mustache! He is super active, and makes a nice contrast to Jelly Bean and Emma the lionheads who are smaller and slower. So the fish group is complete. Everyone seems healthy and happy and I was considering adding them to the big tank right away, but decided to continue with the original plan of keeping them in qt for 3-4 weeks. Today I finally began their qt treatment - over the next couple of days I'll increase the temp to 78 degrees and add salt. Then if no problems over the next 10 days, I'll do 3 rounds of Prazi. Then clean water and temp matching to the big tank and I'll move the fish over one by one. Tonight I vacuumed and did a 30% wc. I added the first batch of salt and upped the temp 2 degrees. The fish have all become super active since I did the wc - everyone is swimming back and forth really quickly. I don't have any pictures and I know I risk the koko's stick. Please don't hurt me! I will try to take some by the weekend.
