  1. Hi again! SO, since Amidala's passing I've been turning my attention to my little T and making sure all is OK before getting my new guys in . He has been behaving a little strangely, darting around one minute and very peaceful the next it made me suspect parasites of some sort , so I decided to treat with prazi/fluke solve this week as a safety measure, this has calmed him down a little but his behaviour is still a little unpredictable so I was planning to re-dose. But his poop is really weird! I fed him: Bits of egg, kale and lettuce before the prazi went in... -Did I mess up feeding him just before treating? His poop goes- wait for it- a normal piece- same colour, normal thickness( that doesn't just fall) followed by a clear casing followed by zigzag which is in the same colour as his last few feeds, white/green. -We are now on day 4 of a 1 week treatment of fluke solve. As I know you guys say it loses potency on day 3 was planning on redosing today after a water change and continuing, what do you think? P.s Water params are the same as in last post on Amidala (normal)- only difference being nitrates are now lower at 20PPM.
  2. Hi KokoNuts, I was looking for 10g of Praziquantel powder and couldn't find it on the Internet. I ended up emailing a factory that produces it in China - min. order 10g. I see 50g (treats 5000 gallons) for sale on Amazon, but no less. I may call my cat vet and try to make a deal.
  3. We recommend the use of prazi to treat the various forms of flukes (e.g., gill, skin, liver) and worms (e.g., tape, flat) that invariably can be found on/in goldfish, especially recently purchased goldfish from nonbreeders. As part of a quarantine procedure, the use of prazi (several doses) is highly recommended. Prazi comes in two forms: powdered or liquid. I have only used the powdered form and have received very good results. I periodically retreat my main tank with one dose when introducing a new fish that has gone through quarantine. Here are some online stores that offer the powdered prazi: 25 grams $35USD http://www.waterford...-Meds-p-73.html 25 grams $32.95USD http://www.webbsonli...gory/Aqua-Prazi 10 grams $26USD http://www.aquaart.c...tions.html#APZI (prazi pond plus) http://www.koi-pond-...ipond-plus.html 25 grams $43USD https://www.amazon.com/Prazi-Treatment-Fluke-Parasite-grams/dp/B00RPTHOFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470934369&sr=8-1&keywords=aqua+prazi I don't know if these online stores ship outside of the US. For those of you who are outside of the US, please include links to online stores that ship to/within your country. Thanks!
  4. Hi there! My oldest school of fry are now 3-months old and I haven't treated them with praziquantel as a precaution measure because they were so tiny and I was afraid the med would rather hurt them than do them any better. Now I think this was very silly, to put it mildly, of me. I've done 100% wc daily untill a couple of weeks ago when I started doing 70% wc also each day. The other day I changed the sponge filter with a bigger one on the weekend. I poored boiling water on it to desinfect it and than washed it with cool water (just water no soap or Anything) and placed it in the tank aka food container. Surprise, surprise and a nasty one to that! yesterday afternoon I noticed blood-red spots on three of my fry. I'll post some pics later today. They showed no other symptoms of sikness, by the way. I moved them to another container and added Wormer plus as indicated in the instructions on the packaging. I want to treat the other fry as well and follow the procedure described here on Koko's. Could someone tell me please if the procedure for Prazipro works for Wormer plus too? Is it safe to use Wormer plus with salt? Should I add it to the "tank" with the sick fry I already started treating?
  5. Does anyone know if I need to remove the nitrate remover pad (made by Deep Blue) when using PraziPro? Thanks
  6. I received 4 fish via mail. 2 telescope and 2 orandas. Orandas are approximately 1 in and the telescopes are approximately 1/2 inch in size. i am doing a fish in cycling of the tank. Not an ideal situation as I have read! They have been in the tank for 4 days now. I am using Prime and added the API Quick Start also. My water parameters are PH 8.0, Ammonia today 1.0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0. I This is the highest my ammonia has gotten. I did a 75% water change after adding the Prime. Now the Ammonia is down to .25% others are the same. This afternoon one of my Orandas died. It had been stressed since its arrival. But my major question is are they too young to treat with Prazi? I noticed that they spitting food and i was worried about parasites. I am feeding Repashy Soilent Green. Thanks for your input.
  7. I've recently dosed my fish with the powder form of Praziquantel (Aqua-Prazi in this case), and as I expected, I couldn't get it to dissolve completely. I'd read that it would dissolve eventually, though, so I poured it in after shaking it with water. (I don't keep alcohol in the house, so the vodka trick wasn't an option for me, nor do I have a blender.) However, I think that my fish, in their zeal, may have eaten a granule or two. Should I be very concerned? They're not in the throws of despair but seem kind of out of it and gulp-y (though they have been gulp-y before, which is why I'm trying the powder form of prazi instead of PraziPro this time). Mostly just curious about the safety of a fish eating a bit of prazi. Thanks!
  8. Hi, I have a question. I am QTing my two fish pOdge and Louie. Louie had ich on him when I got him, and he was in the bag with pOdge from the pet shop so I am QTing them together. I have added the info from the d&d thread I just made for pOdges eye. It seems her eye is ok, but due to my tank being so small, it has been recommended I do 100% daily water changes, which I am more than happy to do. I cannot get a bigger QT tank at the moment and am keeping a very close eye on water parameters and their health. I have just started day 5 treatment for ich: The QT tank was a 12L on day one, and upgraded to a 19L on day two with 100% WC. We have just finished day 4. Did a 50% water change yesterday vacuuming the bottom of the tank, and 100% today removing and replacing filter floss. I increased the tank temp to from 22-26deg celcius over the first 36hr. Commenced salt treatment starting at 0.1% 5hrs after they were in the tank, increasing to 0.2% 12hrs later, and 0.3% 24hrs later again. No Ich spots have been seen for 2 days. I therefore have at least 7 more days of 0.3% salt to get through, and I also need to prazi. I have Blue Planet Fluke/Tapeworm Tablets 100 (Praziquantel) as I could not get the prazi recommended. Each tablet contains 100mg of Praziquantel. My questions are; I have noticed that the recommendations for prazi treatment indicate WC (>50%) only on certain days. I need to do 100% WC daily, so how will this affect my treatment schedule? Do I keep the 0.3% salt up for the whole 30 days? or should it be less for the tablets I have? http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/topic/105076-schedules-for-the-treatment-of-flukes-etc-using-praziquantel/ I couldn't get my head around this so I thought I would ask. Thanks for your help. Aqua One Air Filter Cartridge for up to 26L. I cleaned the filter floss when doing 50% water change yesterday, and ditched it today for new filter floss with 100% water change today in case it was harbouring ich's. Carbon filter part has been removed. * How often do you change the water and how much? Did a 50% water change yesterday vacuuming the bottom of the tank, and 100% today due to ich treatment and their being in such a small tank (I don't have a bigger one for QT and cant get one at the moment ) * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Did a 50% water change yesterday vacuuming the bottom of the tank, and 100% today due to ich treatment and their being in such a small tank (I don't have a bigger one for QT and cant get one at the moment ) * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 both about 5-6cm * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Ich that was seen on Louie is gone and no other ich has been seen for 2 days. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? No unusual behaviour, just wanted to catch the eye thing quickly if it was a problem. Both have responded fine to the salt/temp treatment, and both are eating fine and interacting with me really well. pOdge likes to come over and 'have a chat' when you go near the tank and move your mouth .
  9. Hi, I was treating my goldfish under the Koko teams guidance, and I realised that I have not treated any of my tropical fish for anything. Should I be treating them for ich and with prazi? I bought the tropical the same day I bought the goldfish, and the goldfish had ich. The tank is cycled, but it was an in fish cycle with comets bought from the same shop as above and they were untreated. I have in my 100L tropical tank: 16??? (I cant count them) neon tetras 3 bumble bee gobies 2 bn plecos 6 male sailfin molies 2 male guppies (one very young) 4 female guppies (3 pregnant, maybe 4) Does salt affect any of these fish in concentrations up to 0.3%? Does prazi affect any of these fish?
  10. I'm due to treat my 135 gallon with Prazi. But I was wondering if instead of doing the water change on day 5, day 12, etc., can I just add carbon to the filter instead, to remove the Prazi? I live in southern CA and we are in an extreme drought situation and I don't want to use any more water than I absolutely have to.
  11. Sooooo, it's time for routine maintenance prazi of my goldfish in their 55 gal However, I now have one of Acro's albino bn plecos too. I'd like to give everyone some prazi, but am unsure if the pleco can tolerate it (BTW, I asked Acro and he would like to know the answer too because people frequently ask him). My question: do any of you Kokonuts have any experience with using prazi with bn plecos? Or do you remove them from your GF tank when treating with prazi? Thanks for reading this
  12. Hi everyone!!!! I'm not going to complete the form just yet, because I think Alex might just pat me on the head and tell me not to worry so much (but I have all required info on hand if needed). I know that if the fish has a high fluke burden and you treat with prazi they might feel a bit sickly for a little while, but I just want to clarify the specific symptoms that could be expected if this were the case? My two teles came with a very high fluke burden (arrived in August last year), and I treated the whole tank to six rounds of PraziPro with salt at 0.1% (everyone also had a salt dip). The rest of the fish were completely unphased, but the two teles were occasionally bottom sitting at the start of the each round of Prazi. Recently the same symptoms (split fins, yawning, occasional bottom sitting) have recurred in those same two fish, so I have started treating for flukes again. I'm just bit concerned about the magnitude of Mao's reaction to each Prazi round. Everyone else is fine, but following the first dose of Prazi he was bottom sitting a lot (like all day) and was very listless (being pushed around by the current). He was also kind of slumped to one side (I nearly had a heart attack because thought he was dead), although his dorsal was erect and not clamped. When I tried to rouse him with a net, he barely made it off the bottom and just got pushed around in the current about 2cms from the bottom. A couple of days later he was 100% fine again. Second round of Prazi = same reaction. He seems to be picking up again now. Is this a normal reaction or should I start a proper D&D? I've read about closed populations of fish developing tolerance to flukes, and really upsetting introduced fish who lack the tolerance. Could this be at play here? My original fish had never been treated for flukes prior to the introduction of the two teles. Any info / advice would be appreciated!
  13. Hello everyone!! I hope everyone is in good health and spirits I'm trying to get some advice on my quarantine tank. I bought some lion heads and pearl scales. I noticed that some are yawning and doing a little darting when they "think" I'm not looking. I did a 100% water change yesterday and today I did another and added 10tsp of Epsom salt. I think that I'll have them in there for about a month or more. The tank will stay at my job but I'm taking two home at the end of QT. Am I on the right track? I've seen it said many time that most times fish come with some sort of "issue" mostly flukes. It also seems like fish coming to the Virgin Islands end up with a bad deck of cards. Now I also bought a bottle of aqua prazi but now the heck do I go about treating in a ten gallon tank. ... I even saw a video with castille soap. I kinda wanted to take a bath myself but soap and fish I'm bat crap scared especially after spending that kind of money on fish. I was gonna do my main tank at home after the others have went through QT but I'm not sure how to proceed other than Epsom salt. I'm really scared to bump up the salt to 30tsp even gradually but I see that some people do it for the first two weeks.
  14. After 1st round of prazi and 0.1%, noticed redness on bottom and tails. White spots on one of my fish tail. 30g tank but only filled 2/3. Not cycled. They also group together in one corner.
  15. I've done only one prazi treatment (3 rounds) for my goldies so far (I've had them for three months). How many prazi treatments do you do for your fish per year?
  16. A few questions about game planning the QT of my 2 week old fry... 1. Is Prazi Pro considered safe and what most people successfully use to QT fry? I have read that the liquid PP is too thick/oily and makes it hard for fry to breathe... these fish keepers use the powdered form of Prazi instead. 2. Could someone give me the correct dosage of the preferred product for 5 gallons of water? 3. As of now, I am transferring 35 fry from one clean container of water to another every two days. They are 14 days old and I am not using a filter yet…therefore no established cycle. I'm not sure how the Prazi schedule would look with replacing the water every two days. Or, will I have to keep them in one container and try to clean it with w/c as I go. 4. Is any salt involved in this process? Sorry for all of the questions. I have been very fortunate that all of my fry have made it, and they are growing like weeds!

Just these two since the beginning Any medications added to the tank? Kanaplex in the past, Aqua Prazi lately List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Started on 11/16 FIRST ROUND OF PRAZI: ¾ tsp of prazi, 2% salt, no salt dip. 11/18: 70% water change, first salt dip, ½ tsp of prazi. 11/20: did 80% water change, ¾ tsp prazi, 2% salt, salt dip. 11/22: 80% water change, 2% salt, NO PRAZI. 11/26 SECOND ROUND OF PRAZI: 80% water change, 2% salt, ½ tsp prazi, NO salt dip. Prime every single day because tank is cycling. The first round of prazi was 6 days instead of 4 (which I originally thought), so basically 6 days on prazi and 4 days off. Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Not right now. When I originally started, fins were clamped. Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Originally were bottom sitting. Towards the end of the first round, they perked up quite a bit. I started second round of prazi earlier today. For the last several days Jack and Carmen have been positively giddy. Since I started this second round, they are moving slower and bottom sitting more. Their fins are not clamp though. When I sit in front of the tank, they respond to me by coming over and swimming all around, whereas early in the first round they would just bottom sit. When I leave, they go back to bottom sitting or moving very slowly around the tank. Should I be concerned?
  18. I bought my blue oranda last Monday. I am unsure of gender I have decided to name him Quinn after much uncertainty I believe this name goes either way, gender wise. He weighs 78gm and is 3.5 inches in body length plus 2in with tail He's' been on 0.3% salt since Tues afternoon 10/26 and is currently being quarantined in a 10gal that I'm doing WCs on daily or 2x/day depending on the gunk factor of water My first question if someone will be so kind. How much prazi should I use? Its the powder. Will you also show me the calculation of how you figured the answer please. And how many rounds must I do?! And from what I remember I shouldn't change the water every day when on prazi, right? So, should I fast Quinn and dose the tank with prime during this time? Keep going with 0.3% salt or decrease it? How do I know if I need double prazi or just regular strength? Sorry for slamming you all with these questions it says 10grams/1000gal on my prazi container BTW Quinn says to all the Kokonuts
  19. So, A ryukin (Flipper) that I bought from LFS in december continues to flash. She is my first GF, but I've had many other types of fish and tanks. I want to treat with prazi. I've been treating with 3% salt for one week. I bought powder prazi on amazon. It states that dosage is 10gr/1000gal. My tank is 29gal. I have a small pocket scale. I know this is basic math, but if I mess it up I'll kill my fish. Will somebody tell me the correct dosage, please. Flipper
  20. just wondering if people have formulated a better treatment regime with prazi than the one recommended on the bottle(aquamaster fluke & tapeworm tablets 100mg). recommended dose is once then do 25% water change & clean filter medium. redose is 7 days later. i've picked up on a few people adjusting the dosage rate for more effective removal of the pest & would like to hear what worked for people & what didn't. also am confused as when to return activated carbon to the filter. it says to remove for the duration of the treatment but not when to put it back in!! would the "duration" include the 7 days between doses? cheers for your input!
