  1. I'm pretty sure these are harmless spots but thought I'd double check here. I noticed my black moor had spots on his gill covers a couple of weeks ago & now has them along the front edge of each front fin. The spots are nowhere else on the body. I'm thinking they are breeding tubercles & I have a male moor. would I be right? (sorry the photos are a bit crap, it's difficult to get him to stay still!)
  2. recent video of my 75 gal
  3. Hi everyone! First of all, wanted to say a big THANK YOU for making me feel so warmly welcomed here I love the community and everyone is so knowledgable and helpful! I'm writing today because my goldfish have started to change color. Nothing alarming - I read that this can happen a bit when they're babies. I would say mine are definitely under a year old, maybe even under 6mos. old. Buttons, my black moor, looks like he's starting to turn bronze. His belly scales are a shiny bronze, but he's getting some scales on his upper abdomen area that are bronze/metallic purple. They're really pretty, and his fins are totally normal (no rips, frays, holes, etc) and he isn't in distress. Is this normal? How long does it usually take them to change color? Speckle, my calico ryukin, has started to get some metallic silver scales where black spots used to be. Part of me wonders if the black wasn't just a burn healing, or maybe some other past injury/bruise, because the scale is like BRIGHT WHITE and shiny. It's just one right now but I can see others in the area that look like they're about to change. Neither fish has LOST scales, they just seem to be changing color. All of this happened in the past week or so. Is this good? Bad? Neither? What does it indicate, if anything? Thanks!

    Cross Species

While searching for a buddy for my Bubba (a nice orange oranda) I came across an odd sight at my local fish store. What I found (at brought home) was a gorgeous little moor pearlscale cross. Eyes and tail clearly moor but scales pearl and then the body a combination of the two. Here's a pic: Anyone else have any crosses?
  5. I've decided to (re)name my fish after the Titans and (re)introduce them to you one at a time, hopefully on a monthly basis. So, without further ado, here's the first, Hyperion. Meet Hyperion I've had him for about half a year now. He was listed as a panda butterfly moor, but from the beginning, he was more of a tricolor. I'm also a bit iffy on classifying him as a butterfly, but it's close enough Here he was, six months ago Here he is now. I'm pretty happy with his growth and color change. Don't tell anyone, but he might be my absolute favorite at the moment! I apologize that some of the pics aren't very clear. I have the toughest time taking pics of the 55 gallon. Thank you for looking
  6. here is a short vid of my new babies.... dr.frekyll the calico ryukin, who is about 1 1/2 inches & my tiny black moor, as yet unnamed, who is about an inch long & can be quite difficult to find in the tank. sooo cute!!! currently in quarantine http://s1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee517/strangedays101/?action=view&current=03102012027.mp4
  7. I have lived in fear of Armande hurting his eye since I got him. And it seems he has managed it. :| I can't handle anything happening to little Armande, especially not after losing Fifi recently. I will just die. I have him in quarantine, I want to make sure his eye is injured and get help treating it. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level: 0 * Nitrite Level: 0 * Nitrate level: 0 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) : 7.5 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines): 7.5 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops?: API test drops. * Water temperature?: 74 degrees. * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running?: ten gallons. Set it up with media for quarantine. * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)?: Aqueon quiet flow for thirty gallon tank. * How often do you change the water and how much?: I change quarantine tank once a day, 100% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change?: today. * How many fish in the tank and their size?: one. * What kind of water additives or conditioners?: Aquasafe. * What do you feed your fish and how often?: Fresh greens, peas, greenbeans, bloodworms, frozen vegetarian diet. * Any new fish added to the tank?: no. * Any medications added to the tank?: no. * List previous issues experienced (dropsy, SBD, etc.): none. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. You can see the small spot of red at the bottom of his eye, and that it is slightly larger than his other eye. These are the best pictures I could get.
  8. And here are my terrible impulses. ;~; The Moor I meant to buy, to house in a 30gal with my littler Moor: He won my mom and I over with his big eyes, and dopey face. And how he swam over to our fingers while the other moors ignored us. And the REAL impulses: that little guy is OFFICIALLY the hardest fish to get picture of EVER. This guy has the smaller fins of the two. But he's all siiillver and lovely. They both have little wens. So I am thinking pearscale orandas? Same with the others, though. No names until they have been in QT for a week.
  9. I have been reading on Moor's eyesight, I know that because of the eye "shape" vision is poor. But have also read that eventually they CAN go blind..............is that true ? Just wondering, either way I will still love Caldwell !!
  10. As some of you may know, I went on a trip to Dallas this weekend, hoping to get some new fish. I saw two beautiful butterfly telescopes, but they ended being too expensive. So I didn't get them. Today, on a trip to my 2nd favorite LFS, look what I found and brought home I haven't named them yet. They are in QT, with salt and Prazi, and will likely be there for some weeks. I'm not in a hurry to move them. These are pics and a video after I transferred them to QT. Please pardon the bubbles. #1 #2 Together The video Thanks for looking!
