Some of you might remember the little ryukin at Petsmart I had mentioned since November. I wasn't planning on getting it (stocking levels and all that good stuff) but yesterday Steven surprised me with the little guy, who was still there after four months. Whenever I saw this fish at the store, I thought it would be female, but now that I could take a much closer look at it I am almost fully convinced it is a boy. From the top his body is pretty much 100% symmetrical, unlike all my female fish. He also seems to have an innie. I also never was aware of just HOW TINY this guy is. Another thing that shows me how much my own fish have grown (almost all of them from Petsmart too). This ryukin seemed "big" at the LFS, he was one of the $ 5 guys. But he only is like 1.50 inches long without tail. I wonder a bit if he is stunted, he has a decently pronounced hump and his tail is almost as long as he is, and his head and eyes almost seem a bit big compared to his body. I wouldn't be too surprised, he must have been at the store for at least four months, in about a 10 gallon tank with roughly 20 other fish. Either way, he is so adorable. He kept begging to come home with me for months (literally), and now he's finally here As I had said before, he isn't very special looking. He is a golden yellow (the photos make him look a little bit more deeper color than he really is, and I actually really dig that color), but he stole my heart. He was there for so long, and then someone bought him and brought him back. When Steven got him the LFS associate he talked to was leaving, so he asked that girl there to help Steven, and when she asked about which fish he was talking about, she was referring to him as "the one that came back?". I guess this fish was destined to come home with me. See how little he is? His tail is so long. It goes PAST my middle finger (the reflection makes it look like it ends with my finger tip) This one shows how little he is. He's only about as long as my ring finger and pinky finger are thick together. Fully symmetrical body - I tend to say it's a boy And although confused about the still water (I put him in the Utz barrel for the photos ), this is the face and look I fell in love with back in November. Usually he gets so excited when he sees people. Not hyper like the other fish, more curious and observing. It's so cute.
