  1. Hello! I have an Aqueon 29 gallon bow-front fish tank and the stock light that came with the tank seems to not be working anymore, even after I installed a new tube. I'm interested in getting a new light (LED perhaps?) and would appreciate any suggestions and/or advice on where to look to find suitable lights for my particular tank. If there's a thread that someone knows that has information about lights, I would also appreciate someone tagging it here. =) Thanks!
  2. hello, my tank is in need of a new light system. when i first purchased 5 years ago, the big thing was with long tube globes (yes, i really know nothing ) the actual fixture has now broken and hardly working efficiently. so it's time to buy a brand new unit. i don't want anything too bright, but i want to maintain the good health of my plants. i have anubias on driftwood. 3 piglets bask in it's shining glory for about 16 hours a day. any suggestions? links are very welcome. i have never had LED lights before, but i will be honest with you, the tube lights i have had in the past, i really enjoyed and currently enjoy having. but please share with me what is best as a quick ebay search had me feeling queasy with too many options.
  3. A few weeks ago I dropped the cheapo light that came with my 40B into the water. :yilkes I gave it a few days before turning it back on and within a few minutes the room smelled like smoke and the light was shut off. So..... Time for a new light? The 125 still has the fixture I used before we upgraded. It's a decent light, and I'm lazy, cheap, and not totally sure what I'd want in its place since it is only 48" long and leaves some areas dark. So I decided to let the broken 40B light be an opportunity for experimentation. Anyway, started looking around over the weekend. There was no method to my purchase. I saw this, it had a low profile, good reviews, and came from a brand I recognized. So I bought a 36" Finnex "Stingray." It is smaller than I thought it'd be! very sleek. it definitely puts off a ton of light, and easily lights up a tall and deep tank. BUT, it is very purpley blue. Unlike some LED lights that have a moonlight setting, you cannot turn the blue off. With my regular t5ho lighting: (yes these pictures are awful) with the Finnex: But! I didn't buy it for the 125. I bought it for my daughter's purple fish tank. And it is fabulous. Bottom line. Would I recommend this light? Yes! But my enthusiasm comes with a disclaimer! I recommend it if you don't mind a blue hue. I DO mind a blue hue in the 125, I guess I prefer a more natural-y light in there. But otherwise, it's a yes. Hope this was at least a little bit helpful, to someone out there.
  4. ive had my seaclear 36" long 40G with the cheapy single 24" fluorescent tube fixture that comes with it for years.. but the tank was always in a sunny room so the plants never suffered. my goldfish tank is heavily planted and my goldfish are actually well behaved about not tearing them up. but ive moved the tank to another room so its time to think about buying a Nicer light fixture as the plants are beginning to suffer and i cant see the fish as well. i tried LEDs and it was a major waste of money. im thinking about a fixture that is at least the equivalent of 3 to 4 24" 20 watt fluorescent tubes, or maybe an actual 36" fixture since the tank is actually that long. ive looked at some 24" fixtures that hold 4 High Output fluorescent tubes, and some 24" fixtures that hold 2 of the compact fluorescent tubes (the ones that are 2 tubes stuck together with 4 pins in a row) i like the look of daylight mixed with actinic, or the 50/50 CFLs. my questions, i wonder if any one knows or has some experience with these different bulbs. compact fluorescent, regular and H.O. fluorescent tubes; What is Brighter? how do they compare to eachother? what lasts longest? most cost effective? heat problems? do plants thrive more with one or the other? thanks!
  5. Does anyone use LED lighting for their tanks? I've seen youtube videos of LED light strips (or light tubes).
  6. Ok, so I know very little about this. I've read here and there, but I'm still not sure. I need lights for my tank. It's 100 gallons tall version. 48 inches long. The light thing that came with it was very old and unsafe (I toughed it to turn it off and almost got electrocuted...ouch!). I eventually want to have plants in my tank, easy to grow and maintain with little light requirement. What do you guys recommend? thoughts on what kind of lights I should get?
