  1. Hi All, My name is Casey. First, I would like say thank you for all the wonderful information on this forum. What an amazing resource this is! I have been lurking for a while now, but this is my first post...sorry it is in D&D. I am hoping you can tell me if I have a problem or if I am being paranoid. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank)- 0 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank)- 0 ppm * Nitrate level(Tank)- 0 ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap)- 0 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap)- 0 ppm * Nitrate level(Tap)- 0 ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) pH = 8.2, KH = 107.4 ppm, GH = 143.2 ppm, no chloramines * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) pH = 8.2, KH = 125.3, GH = 143.2, no chloramines Other Required Info: * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? - Occasional yawning and flashing from the smaller ranchu. Resting a lot in the corner/floating at an angle from the large ranchu. Both do some gulping at the surface occasionally. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus?- None. * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. - The larger ranchu was purchased via auction in January and arrived floating at a 45 degree angle and kept his nose in the corner. He was treated with Kordon Ich Attack - (10 day course with .1% salt) followed by PraziPro (two or three 5-day rounds with .1% salt), and Tetra Paraguard - (2 doses with each dose in the tank for one week and a water change in between) Finished treatment in mid February. When he was treated with PraziPro, a whole bunch of small white and large yellow worm-like "things" were ejected out the back of his gill flaps and he twitched like mad for a few hours. After the first day or two of PraziPro he started looking better, swimming around, and being upright again. After the initial three treatments, he seemed happy and healthy. In April I upgraded from the 27 gallon cube that the larger ranchu was in to a 40B and upgraded to a canister filter (I transfered the hydro-sponge filter and biostars from the prior setup to the new tank and filter). I then added a second ranchu from ECR who had been in quarantine for one month with no issues. Both fish seemed fine and healthy at the time of introduction and got along great. No harassing. A month later (May) the larger ranchu had his nose in the corner again and the newer ranchu was yawning a lot with rapid breathing or what I called "jogging in place" at various times throughout the day. I treated the tank with five 7-day rounds of PraziPro and .1% salt and everybody seemed back to normal. A month later (June) I caught the smaller ranchu flashing occasionally (but not often-maybe once or twice a day) with no other symptoms. Over the next month (into July) the flashing stopped but both ranchus started gulping at the top of the tank more often and yawning more. By the middle of July, the gulping and yawning was worse, the smaller ranchu was flashing again occasionally, and the larger ranchu was floating at an angle again. I started a third treatment of PraziPro on the 22nd of July and followed the protocol that Dnalex posted for six 5-day rounds. After completion of the last Prazi round, about a week and a half ago, there has been no change in their behavior as compared to before the treatment. The larger ranchu is still resting a lot at an angle in the corner of the tank and the smaller ranchu is still flashing occasionally with yawns, and there is still surface gulping from both. Apart from these symptoms they eat enthusiastically, come running to beg whenever anybody walks by the tank, hunt and peck (when they are not resting), and look normal outwardly. * Any medications added to the tank? - Just finished a 6-round course of salt (1 tsp. per gal) and PraziPro last week. There is still .1% salt in the tank. * Any new fish added to the tank? -Not since the end of April * What do you feed your fish and how often? -NLS Thera-A twice a day and Hikari frozen blood worms/Hikari frozen brine shrimp once a day * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Seachem Prime * How many fish in the tank and their size? Two ranchus. One is about 4.5 inches and the other is about 5 inches * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? -Six days ago, 80-90% (down to the back of the larger ranchu) - tonight is water change night * How often do you change the water and how much? -Every five to seven days (80-90%) * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? -API Filstar XP-L, Hydro-Sponge III * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? -40B, since the end of April * Water temperature? -79F * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? -API Freshwater Master, drops
  2. Hi all, First, the preliminaries: Please copy & paste fill the following form and fill it out to the best of your ability when requesting help for Goldfish Problems: Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) .25ppm (NOTE: these levels were all taken before the WC I did today) * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) 0 ppm (currently understocked and it's been this way for a while) * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0 ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) 0 ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.5-7.6 pH * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.0 pH Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API master kit drops * Water temperature? 70-71 F * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 29 gallons, 1 year since last move, but 6 years total * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 2 AquaClear 70's with ceramic media (provided by AQ) and Fluval bio-rings (in the other one), floss pad, and provided sponge thing (these have been running for about 5-6 months) * How often do you change the water and how much? 60-70% every 4-5 days; larger percentage when I was treating for flukes (according to Koko's 6-round schedule) * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Today, around 70% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 ribbontail, 6 years old, about 2.5-3 inches but very egg-shaped * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime, Flourish comprehensive and excel, GoldBuffer * What do you feed your fish and how often? 2x daily: NLS Thera-A and the goldfish-specific ones (alternating days and all pre-soaked); Repashy Super Green; sometimes nori or spirulina, though with the Repashy, less so lately * Any new fish added to the tank? No, but her tankmate died on March 7, 2015, which is why I started treating for flukes * Any medications added to the tank? Not yet * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. I did a salt-dip a few days ago due to her tail and the missing scales--she lasted less than a minute in the bath and the whole experience was terrifying for me; after her tankmate died and I came to Koko's, I did 6 rounds of fluke treatment (PraziPro and .1% salt) according to Koko's recommendations--as a previous thread shows, she reacted very strongly so I think she must have had a lot of flukes; I tried Melafix for her tail previous to the fluke treatment but it seemed to make it hard for her to breathe so I stopped after a couple of days; 1 year ago I treated the fish for columnaris with MetroMeds and Maracyn-1 and -2 (BB was killed off); 3 years ago I treated them for Ich with salt and high temps; I have given Methylene Blue baths before when the BB died a year ago and I was worried about Nitrite sickness, and a couple months ago since my current fish has excess slimecoat on her tail that will not go away--it did not turn blue so I don't think it is a fungus, but of course I am not an ichthyologist * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Excess slimecoat on tail and mild fraying; 6 missing scales from flashing during Prazi; she is a white fish who seemed to keep getting more sparkly (?) over time, but there are no dots on her fins whatsoever * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? jumpier and yet lower energy than usual; sometimes she swims sideways along the bottom of the tank, but I can't tell if she just has hard time turning around; periodic yawning; periodically "biting" the surface of the water without prolonged gasping, though; some stationary floating when she thinks she is alone--just lower energy than pre-Queenie's death and Prazi treatment Hi all, I want to say first of all that it's hard to get a video of her doing all of these things since I'd have to essentially have a nanny-cam on her. I wanted to ask about this weird sideways swimming that I see her periodically doing. She doesn't scratch against objects in the tank, but I notice that when she seems to want to turn around quickly she'll swim sideways along the sand substrate. Her tail still will not heal despite vigilant water changes and the .1% salt concentration during Prazi treatment. She also just seems kind of bummed out, and the surface biting concerns me. I don't know if she is melancholy because she is alone, or because she is not feeling well. She eats, but the weird swimming and non-healing fins/scales also concern me. I am wondering if she could have another kind of parasite that caused flashing, etc. Do you think I should try a .3% salt concentration in case it's some other kind of topical parasite? It would kill some of my plants, which is why I haven't done it so far, but if it's necessary Duchess > plants.
  3. Hi guys, Haven't tested my water for a little while, so will do that asap and get the results to you. Had some issues in my tank lately. Nightshade died, possibly due to an internal parasite, but unsure. Super sad, felt helpless and still feeling horrible. Lipstick has bacterial cysts popping up everywhere (and her own D&D thread about them). Now Gumshoe is showing omonious signs and symptoms. Which is REALLY worrying, because this is the fish who showed no sign of stress illness in hideous ammonia and nitrite when a cycle problem went horribly wrong, and everyone else was bottom sitting and dying. Gumshoe is: * Bottomsitting * Flashing (is this what it is called when they quickly scrap against the gravel?) * Clamped fins * Weird twitchy movement of fins * Weird movement - seems restricted through the body * Dark colouring appeared on the top side of her body - this has been there for awhile and I thought nothing of it because I thought colour change seems quite common and normal. But now I'm thinking it might be relevant? Video uploading atm. Tank is currently salted to 0.2% because of Lipstick's cysts. All I can thing of is that the hinge on my tank is rusting, and flakes of rust may have been falling into the tank. Not sure what effect that could have. I'm going to get them out of there and into the QT asap. Could anything else be causing this? What should I do?
