  1. This thing is amazing. My nitrates were always in the 40-80 range (I can't tell the difference between those two colors on the chart to save my life, can anyone tell them apart??) before my weekly 80% water change. I've had a lot of problems recently with floaty fish and just other general health issues, and figured my high nitrates might have something to do with it. So I started looking online for products to reduce nitrates. Everything from $300 nitrate filters to $150 reactor setups, to this product: http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Blue-Professional-ADB41005-Nitrate/dp/B004HSUO20/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 It's a big blue filter pad, and I was skeptical that it would actually do anything, despite all the positive reviews. But I figured I should try it before I started spending $100's on fancy reactor systems. I cut it so that it fits in my AC 500, and conveniently enough it now takes up the exact same space as the sponge that comes with the filter, so that was a plus. I tested my nitrates before I did my water change and added this thing, and they were at their usual 40-80 ppm. I'm on week three now, just tested my water before my water change, and my nitrates are at 5 ppm. Five. :| And I wouldn't be surprised if they're at zero when I test it next week. This is the best thing that has ever happened to my tank, I can't recommend it enough. GO BUY ONE RIGHT NOW.
  2. I got tired of not having anything in the tank, so I put some fake plants in there. Sorry if the quality is bad, it looks amazing on my phone but not so amazing on youtube. : /
  3. I'm due to treat my 135 gallon with Prazi. But I was wondering if instead of doing the water change on day 5, day 12, etc., can I just add carbon to the filter instead, to remove the Prazi? I live in southern CA and we are in an extreme drought situation and I don't want to use any more water than I absolutely have to.
  4. My beloved oranda has developed food-related swim bladder issues. He doesn't really have great balance or stability to begin with, and after feeding him ANYTHING, he becomes floaty. Yesterday he was stuck upside down for the entire day just from one bite-sized chunk of SG. I have tried NLS pellets, Soilent Green, Super Green, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen spirulina with brine shrimp, it seems like every single thing I feed him makes him float. Would adding some koi clay or probiotics to the Super Green help at all? I don't have a stove right now so I can't cook up a fancy batch of 100% homemade gel food.
  5. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0.00 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0.00 * Nitrate level(Tank) 10 ppm (prior to WC it was between 40-80, I can't read the chart any better than that) * Ammonia Level(Tap) 1.00 (chloromines) * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0.00 * Nitrate level(Tap) 0.00 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.2 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.2 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? New Life Spectrum once or twice a day, raw red leaf lettuce a few times a week. I was feeding them Soilent Green, but it made this fish extremely floaty (like flip upside-down floaty) so I'm only feeding them the NLS right now. * Any new fish added to the tank? last additions were on 6/13, this fish plus 2 others, all from Dandy Orandas * Any medications added to the tank? none currently * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Just finished 5 rounds of Prazi treatment at 0.1% salt * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? There is a cottony white growth on her wen, the base of which looks red and infected. I first noticed it about 5 days ago, it has grown in size since I first saw it. Everything else looks normal. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Fish is eating and behaving normally I got this fish on 06/13/14 from Dandy Orandas. She has been healthy until now. I did 5 rounds of Prazi and salt which ended on 7/20. She has a cottony white growth in her wen, just behind her nostril. I first noticed it about 5 days ago and have been keeping an eye on it. It started out small and has gotten bigger. The base of it looks red. (See photos). I have Metro-Meds on hand but I'm not sure if this is something that would be treated with antibiotics. I've moved her to a quarantine tank. Need advice.
  6. This is my new baby that I got yesterday from goldfishnet.com.

Looks bloated, some red dots on the stomach area * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? see below He was fine this morning. I fed them, he ate some Soilent Green, everything seemed normal. When I got home from work, he was just hanging out in the top corner for a long time, which he never does. So I coaxed him out with the net and realized he was not looking good at all. I just tried to feed him some MMs and he won't eat, just spits them out. I'm extremely worried.

Bloody streaks at the base of all the fins. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? - he seems a little down. I think he may be trying to bottom-sit but the current in the tank is pretty strong. This is kind of an ongoing issue I'm having with this fish. This is one of my DO fish that I got about 2 months ago. When I had him in QT, I noticed one morning that the areas around his fins were bloody. I started him on Metro Meds, and it cleared up overnight. I kept him on MMs for 2 weeks. Since then, I've noticed a random bloody spot here and there, but it's always gone again the next day. But this is the worst I've seen it. I did a dose of Prazi yesterday because all the fish have been yawning a bit, and most of them were due for a treatment anyway. Here's a video of him:
  9. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) <0.25 (I always get this reading; pretty sure it's a slight false positive) * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0.00 ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) 5 - 10 ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) 1.00 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0.00 ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) 0.00 ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.2 (didn't test GH or KH, I have hard water) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.2 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 78 F * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 29 gal, running for 1 year * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? AquaClear 200 x2 * How often do you change the water and how much? weekly, 100% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Friday 8/16, 100% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 fish, each 5" - 6" * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? so far just peas and Soilent Green, minimal amounts * Any new fish added to the tank? these are all new as of 8/16 * Any medications added to the tank? Prazi * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. I started 1 round of Prazi on Friday, and they are at 0.2% salt. These are new fish, they came from DO so they were QT'd there as well. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? some frayed fins, but pretty sure that was from travel stress * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? the big oranda is butt-floaty, and often flips upside down while swimming My 3 new fish from Dandy Orandas are all having thin, stringy poops, and I haven't really seen the oranda poop at all yet. I think he's constipated and that's what's causing his floating/flipping issues. I contacted Ken at DO, and he said the fish definitely wasn't like that before, and that sometimes it can take them a few days to recover from shipping. It's been 4 days now and he hasn't changed. I'm concerned about him not pooping. Here's a video of the flipping: I was thinking of maybe putting a divider in the tank so when I check on them in the morning I can see if he pooped or not. It's too hard to tell with 3 of them in the tank (and they enjoy eating it...)
  10. I realized I haven't posted any pics/video yet of all my fish together in my 135 gallon. Please excuse the bad quality, one of these days I'll get it right, lol.
