  1. Last night I managed to take a few nice photos of some of the fish in the community/sorority. Most of them are of the bettas since they were surprisingly cooperative and very curious about my camera. Holding still a lot too so I could get some nice photos without flash. I want to apologize in advance for my radioactive plants. My camera really is having a hard time with all the green The pleco wants a hug Cid being not very cooperative this time The rainbow girl's body colored up a lot. She was much more white when I got her, now she is half blue The pearl one is so pretty. I love how depending on the angle and the light, her fins have this icy pink or blue coloring The yellow girl has become quite a feisty one I love the shading on this girl. Camera flash usually washes it all out. Is it just me or are Sucky Fishie and the neon "exchanging looks" Yellow and Pearl were having a dance-off Go home, Oto, you're drunk. You're not a Cory! I love how this piece of wood looks. This one looks like such a snob I love the blue "tear drop" The vals are really taking off. Look at that root system! Some of the cabomba and anacharis that got knocked loose by Sucky Fishie decided to plant itself among the vals.
  2. I can't find much info on this. I know a "normal" sorority in a 20g tank needs 5-6 females. But what if it is a well planted 55g with non-betta tank mates? How many females are needed? I currently got 4 in QT and wonder if I should get more now? I would kind of like to NOT, but to wait until I see a couple females that really strike me time in the future. This tank has peppered cories, otos, black neons, bloodfin tetras, a pleco, an angelfish and two platies. Aside from the platies (marigold and orange tuxedo) none of them is very colorful. My thought is that with the size of the tank (almost 3 times "your average" sorority tank), lots of plants (you saw my cabomba wonder topic, right?) and non-betta tank mates as distraction, four should be fine... or not? I just want an honest and sincere answer. If more than four will be better, I will just go out and get a couple at the LFS tomorrow. Also, don't get me wrong: If it will make the "community" "easier" with more than four right now, I am absolutely willing to get some more tomorrow, even if I'd love to wait for "that special" fish in the future. The well being of these girls and the community inhabitants means more to me than me wanting a certain color fish.
  3. Just a few quick pics of my newly acquired girls. These three plus the multicolored girl, and I want to get one more. Probably a blue one, if I see a nice looking one Currently they are all in QT. The red one "worries" me a bit as she bottom sits and clamps a bit. Hopefully she will perk up soon! The first two were in cups with cracks. You can see it with the red girl; the big crack on the left side with a couple drops of water seeping out. The second one (no idea what color that is) was literally in 1" of water because her cup was slowly draining out through a small crack at the very bottom of the cup The yellow crown tail is smaller than the two "regular" females. She is about the same size as the multicolored girl. And as a reminder, the still unnamed girl that I got like... 10 days? ago. Even though she looks like a baby, she was laying a ton of eggs yesterday They will look so neat "together"

    Introducing Ayako.

I went to the little pet store next to my house and I came home with a new little female betta. She was housed in a small betta box with 2 other girls who seemed to be pretty badly beat up. Since she was the only one with intact fins I figured she was the most aggressive one, so she would fit in with my other three bad girls. So here is Ayako which is Japanese and means beautiful silk girl. The pics aren't great because I was acclimating her in a small container. Her water was so cold poor thing! And a small video of all my girls. You'll see Ayako and Bella interacting from their different homes. <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid634.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fuu70%2Fcaitie_bucket%2FMybettazone.mp4"> Thanks for looking.
