I was posting pictures of my new baby fry over on the new members forum, when someone informed me that my white and orange fry, Asimov, was "clamping his fins", and that could be a sign of health issues. So I've come here to ask if anyone can identify what may be wrong with him. Pictures below.
Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) .25 * Nitrite Level(Tank) no test * Nitrate level(Tank) 10 * Ammonia Level(Tap) .25 * Nitrite Level(Tap)no test * Nitrate level(Tap) 0 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.6 (I do not have a high Ph test kit) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.6 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API test kids , drops * Water temperature? 70 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 40B, I just switched over on 3/29 from a 20G that had been running for aprox 3 months * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? One Aqua tech 20-40 and one Tertra Whisper 60 * How often do you change the water and how much? 10% daily to clean the bottom and at least 50% every 3 or 4 days * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 4/3 I did a 60% water change * How many fish in the tank and their size? two fish, one is a 10g blue oranda and the other is a 17g ruykin * What kind of water additives or conditioners? I was using API tap water conditioner, but switched to Prime on 4/1 when I found out there was ammonia in my tap water * What do you feed your fish and how often? Aqueon goldfish granules (pre soaked for a few minutes) twice a day. Pureed spinach, peas, and carrots gel food once a day( I just started this earlier this week) Frozen blood worms once a week (they just got this for the first time two days ago. * Any new fish added to the tank? no * Any medications added to the tank? Kordon Ich Attack 24ml added today * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. I treated for Ich once before with these same fish when I got them at the begining of March. I treated with Ich Attack and raised the temp up to 80 for one week. This was after seeing a few spot on the Ruykin. The spots went away after 3 days of treatment and I continuted to treat for 4 days afterwards. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? White spots on tail fin and pectoral fins. I noticed that the tail fin seems to be curing under a bit and his dorsal fin is being kept pulled down close to his body * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Bottom sitting, or sitting on the plants. This just started last night. I was on my way to bed and I noticed the Ruykin sitting on one of the plants. I just thought he was sleeping and I snapped a few pictures of it. Then this morning he didn't swim up to the front of the tank to greet me, and I knew there was something wrong. He is always been the friendliest out of the two, and anytime I walk by the tank he is right there to greet me.
Hi guys, Haven't tested my water for a little while, so will do that asap and get the results to you. Had some issues in my tank lately. Nightshade died, possibly due to an internal parasite, but unsure. Super sad, felt helpless and still feeling horrible. Lipstick has bacterial cysts popping up everywhere (and her own D&D thread about them). Now Gumshoe is showing omonious signs and symptoms. Which is REALLY worrying, because this is the fish who showed no sign of stress illness in hideous ammonia and nitrite when a cycle problem went horribly wrong, and everyone else was bottom sitting and dying. Gumshoe is: * Bottomsitting * Flashing (is this what it is called when they quickly scrap against the gravel?) * Clamped fins * Weird twitchy movement of fins * Weird movement - seems restricted through the body * Dark colouring appeared on the top side of her body - this has been there for awhile and I thought nothing of it because I thought colour change seems quite common and normal. But now I'm thinking it might be relevant? Video uploading atm. Tank is currently salted to 0.2% because of Lipstick's cysts. All I can thing of is that the hinge on my tank is rusting, and flakes of rust may have been falling into the tank. Not sure what effect that could have. I'm going to get them out of there and into the QT asap. Could anything else be causing this? What should I do?
I have no money for additional medicine until tomorrow evening when I get paid. On hand I have aquarium salt, epsom salt, prime, stress coat, quick cure and parasite guard. It should also be noted the ranchu in the tank is doing some bottom sitting and heavy breathing like the oranda but not exhibiting any issues. Did I almost kill them both? Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level - 0 - .25 * Nitrite Level - 0 * Nitrate level - (ran out of drop tests) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7- 7.2 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7 - 7.2 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 70 - 73 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 10 gallon QT tank * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Two small sponge filters and a 30 gallon HOB filter with carbon removed. * How often do you change the water and how much? 25% once a day - test the water daily. * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Last night - 80% to remove meds. * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 fish, one small ranchu and one large oranda. * What kind of water additives or conditioners? api stress coat * What do you feed your fish and how often? nls pellets, blood worms, peas * Any new fish added to the tank? just these two in qt at the same time * Any medications added to the tank? parasite guard, aq salt, stress coat, or quick cure as described in the first paragraph. * List previous issues experienced (dropsy, SBD, etc.) n/a * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. This oranda had just come out of QT at petsmart but I decided to QT her anyway when I got home after my disaster losing my last stock due to improper QT. I treated her with parasite guard tabs, which has prazi as the first active ingredient, as well as metro and one or two other things. After that treatment I did a double dose of quick cure (at the stores recommendation) with a half dose of AQ salt for a few days. For water conditioner I have been using stress coat as the fish had just come out of QT and had a few scales missing. The oranda now has clamped fins and is slightly front heavy and doing a bit of bottom sitting. Sometimes she swims normally, sometimes she sits. Have I just stressed and nearly killed my oranda with medications that were unnecessary? I am absolutely beside myself, I checked with the store every day until she came out of QT and am so worried about her. I don't want to lose her. Her poops are coated in a whitish coating and she has basically stopped eating. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? As of today the fins have a few frayed looking white ends, the poop is covered in a whitish coating and she's not eating much. I see no parasites of any kind or bloody streaks. Breathing is VERY LABORED AND SLOW AND SHALLOW. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Not eating, bottom sitting, top heavy, seems a little wobbly due to clamped fins. If there is anyone in the portland or vancouver area who would like to come by and see the fish or knows of a vet who can help fish, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am absolutely beside myself!
