  1. Hi guys....I thought Christmas was going too well. I woke up this morning to find my telescopes (Marty) right hand tail-fin strewn with blood streaks, and quite serious fraying of the lower fin? I immediately tested the water, and half expected to find high levels of Nitrites or similar. The tests revealed the following... pH....7.6 Ammonia....0 Nitrites....0 Nitrates....5-10 Suspecting maybe poor water quality, I completed a 75% drain of the existing tank water. I added sufficient quantities of salt to the remaining 25% to give the boys a salt bath for about an hour, prior to replenishing the tank to its' correct level with fresh water and Prime additive. Here's the fin that is mainly affected.... The opposite side doesn't appear to be as badly affected.... He appears to be behaving OK...eating fine, and the other guys don't seem to be bothering or giving him any undue attention. I'd welcome your thoughts on the subject....I was intending to carry out some regular water changes and salt additive over the next few days.....whad'ya think?
  2. Hi everyone - back again. Here's the questionnaire: Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) 10ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrate level(Tap) 0 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)8.0 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)8.8+ Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API * Water temperature? 74F * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 75 gal, 10 months or so * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Aquaclear 110g - 2 of them, HOB * How often do you change the water and how much? 1x per week, 80-90% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 3 days, 90% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 5, all >4in except one that is about 5in with tail * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Seachem PRIME, Seachem FLOURISH * What do you feed your fish and how often? Peas when they are constipated, usually 1x per day just as a preventative; Saki Hikari sinking baby pellets, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp * Any new fish added to the tank? Yes but this was occurring before the new fish was added * Any medications added to the tank? PraziPro * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Have treated with Prazi every 6 months or so, unless they seemed to be surface gasping. Including this time, they have been treated with Prazi twice since I've had them. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Yes - bloody streaks ONLY at the end of Clem's tail. Speckle's fins were bloody last week but appear to have healed a lot and the blood is almost gone for her. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Nope - all have appetites, all very active, no darting, etc. Okay so I'm back!!! I did end up getting another little fishy, though I have no pictures at the moment and will have to show her off later. The tank is FULLY STOCKED now, haha. Writing again because Clem's red tail streaks from fighting with Mr. B still have not gone away. I don't think there's any underlying problem, but I'm going away for a week next week and I want to make sure that Clem doesn't end up being really sick while I'm gone. I'm going to try and get some pics for you - basically the bloody parts are only at the end of his tail, at all 4 "points". He is still active, hungry, and lively as ever. Nothing seems out of the ordinary except the bloody streaks. Does it just take some of them longer to heal than others? Thanks for any help
  3. On of my tropical fish (danios) has a large clear bubble on its fin, there is also blood around the bubble. The water is still clear, the other fish seem fine as well. It does look quite bad, I have already lost one of the fish after it jumped out of the tank via the small space in the back for cables. Could anyone offer advice on how this (what ever it is) could be treated. I have added a link to a video below of the fish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP-oryLImpk&feature=youtu.be Many Thanks. Test Results for the Following: I have not tested. See above * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? all hovering at the top.
  4. Hi Guys, So, a couple of months ago I bought a 19L Fluval Chi, And I put my 2 Danios in, and My 2 Minnows in it that I had from a previous tank, unfortunately, one of the danios died. and my mum has 1 of the minnows, sooooooo, when I bought the tank, I went and got a fantail, before any of you jump down my throat about the tank being too small, I know, but I wanted to have a goldfish for a few months, and recently, it stayed at the bottom of the tank, and it had little white spots all on its tail, and it was sluggish and didn't move much except for food, I've seen it move properly for the first time in a while earlier, and I found that on the top left part of it's tail it has a lot of blood, and in the top left part it has a little bit of blood coming from it, and on the bottom fin too. Please, someone help? Thanks, T
  5. Hi, A couple of days ago, I noticed that my Goldfish's eye is "popping" out, and it has a bruise below the eye, but then the eye started to bleed, and now the eye is full of blood. The eye pops out even more every day. When I noticed the eye problem, I moved this fish to a quarantine tank. Here's a video on what's happening http://youtu.be/WR_SsRKoHmE I added 3 Albino Red-finned Sharks (I had no idea that they were sharks), my local fish store didn't even know what they are. They said that it's okay to put those fish with my goldfish. I have 4 Goldfish (1 Comet, 1 Fantail, 2 Eggfish) in my tank (including the sick one) and 3 Albino red-finned sharks (for 2 days, then I moved those Sharks to my pond). My tank is fairly small (31320cm3 = 8.27 gallons), I do know that it's cramp but my little brother keeps on buying more fish. The sick fish (Eggfish) has a "brother" that I bought together with the sick fish, and he's doing great. The sick fish doesn't swim as much as he used to, and he keeps on staying on the bottom of the tank. He also eats a lot less. I don't know the water pH, Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia (since they don't sell test kits in Indonesia), but I use bore water (well water) purified through some UV tubes and filters. I added water conditioner, plant fertilizers, anti-stress zyme, and some salt. In my quarantine tank, I added water conditioner, anti-stress zyme, and salt. I feed my Goldfish Goldfish flake food, and frozen bloodworm every week or so. I rarely do water changes (like 25% 2X a month) because I have a decent filter. The tank have been running for ~5 years, but recently (~2 weeks ago), I changed everything (substrate, water, added plants). To simplify things [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit) [*]Nitrite Level? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit) [*]Nitrate level? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit) [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit) [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit)(I use bore water) [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? - (Where I live, they don't sell the kit) [*]Water temperature? ~23 degrees Celsius = ~73.4 degrees Fahrenheit [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 8.27 Gallons, running for 5 years, but changed everything 2 weeks ago [*]What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Yes. My minnow has bloody splotches on his tail which is also slightly frayed. He also has tiny red spots that Look like he was pricked with a pin * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? My minnow wasn't eating yesterday and seemed really nervous. I have a rosy red minnow and he has been acting nervous for a few days. I have him in a ten gallon tank with three other fish (an albino corydoras catfish, and two balloon bellied mollies. I KNOW THAT YOU CAN'T PUT TROPICAL FISH WITH GOLDFISH BUT MY FRIEND'S FISH DIED AND SHE HAD SOME ROSY RED MINNOWS LEFT OVER FROM FISH FEEDINGS SO I TOOK 2-one died-) TOday I came home and my minnow had a red spot on his tail so I moved him into a seperate fish bowl. Now the dot has turned into red splotches all over his tail and he has what looks like tiny red pricks on his upper body. There is NO ammonia in the tank and everything else is normal. Does he have septicemia? Or another kind of bacterial infection? He hasn't been looking normal for the past few days either... He would spit out food, and would be very jittery and nervous. Now my cory catfish is spazzing out (like more than normal and I don't want to lose him!!!). Does it have anything to do with what is wrong with the minnow? PLEASE HELP! OH AND.... the temperature in the tank is like 74 degrees (fahrenheit). I changed the water (like 15%) in the tank because if it was a bacterial infection that would help. Quote MultiQuote
