PLEASE HELP I recently scored a 140L tank and was very excited to put some new goldfish in their so that my year old fantail would have a few buddies. My sister and I excitedly went to the local fish shop to ask for some advice and pick out some new buddies. The fish shop man assured me that I could have 9 fish in my tank no worries. Its been one week and after extensive research due to the amount of complications it’s become very obvious through multiple complications from fish picking each others scales off to ammonia levels becoming excessively high VERY quickly. that this is not true and he was lying. Although I love all the new babies I understand this is not healthy for them and I just am very lost on what to do. The store won’t let me return them as I don’t have a receipt. Is a humane euthanasia with clove oil the best option if I can’t find anyone to rehome them? I can’t afford more tanks at the moment. But they are still small petshop sized goldfish besides my year old fantail how long until they become stunted and in pain? please help.

Hello everyone! My name is Daniel. Anyway while I have had many fish before including common goldfish some oh 16 or so years ago (still have them in an outdoor pond (approx. 112,000 gal) this is the first time I have had "fancy" goldfish, and I must say I am more pleased with them so far than anything I have ever had. they have 10x the character any of my other fish have one even likes to be petted lol. they remind me more of my dog than the other fish I have. That being said I want to do everything I can right for them, so they can live long happy lives. The two I have right now are about 2.5 inch from mouth the tip of the tail, body about 1.5 inch long and 1.0 inch deep. They are (red and white) Ryukin goldfish. They are in a 15 gal tank, I know this is too small for when they get a little older but it is the only tank I have open right now. This brings up my first question how long can I "healthily" keep them in that tank? Oh I have to filter hang on back filter systems one rated for 10 gal, and one rated for 20 gal. I have extra filter media in the 20 gal one (thanks to watching tithras video on youtube. Thank you for posting those videos they are helpful. The other I have set up with ammonia removing blend filter media (bought at petsmart). Is that ok? Other than that right now I have black sand 2" deep in the bottom, two red and white rocks, one Anubis plant, and a pack of dried plants sold at petsmart (if they sprout not yet planted). Is there anything wrong with any of that? Lastly I have yet to name the two fish not knowing their gender can I find this out at their age? and also can someone tell me the approximant age given the dimensions I give?

The song "You Learn" by says it all. Share your top three mistakes that you made with your first tank. Me personally. 1) I was overstocked. I had three fishies in a twenty gallon. 2) I bought my fishies before my tank was cycle. 3) I didn't want to spend $ to get the right equipment.
