  1. Hello. My boyfriend recently brought home four new pearlscales and plopped them into the main tank, not quarantining them. Sigh. So three of them are doing fine. Have been in the tank for four days. However, one seems to be on death's door. I have given her a salt dip in a 3% saline solution, have been trying to gently net her and feed her since she can't seem to maintain a stable balance (the slightest pressure from the bubbler will blow her over) and she is routinely near the top of the tank, not gasping at the surface, but hovering there. I have a UV sterilizer running and was advised by the breeder where we got her to try a course of antibiotics. I treated the tank with 1,250 mgs of amoxicillin (60 gallon tank, 250 per 10 gallons). I have done a partial water change today and will treat again with amoxicillin. It should be a 4 day course. I order PrasiPro and it should arrive Monday because it could potentially be flukes if it's not bacterial. She shed her slime coat after I performed about an 80% water change using Prime and API stress coat (yesterday). It scared me to death because there were long milky peels hanging form her sides last night and now she has red, raw sides. I cannot get her to eat anything substantial although she shows interest. I feel like she is on a slow march to death :'( Please help. * Ammonia Level(Tank): 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank): 0 * Nitrate level(Tank): 0 * Ammonia Level(Tap) * Nitrite Level(Tap) * Nitrate level(Tap) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines): 7.8 Ph * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API freshwater master kit * Water temperature? 78 degrees * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running?: 60 gallons, 3 months * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Marineland Penguin 200 HOB (2 of them) each has ceramic rings and carbon filters. Combined, they filter 20x the tank's overall water capacity. * How often do you change the water and how much? Change the water twice a week, about 60-80% each time * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 1 day ago, 80% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 5 fish, each 2-3 inches * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Seachem Prime, API Stress coat, API aquarium salt * What do you feed your fish and how often? Hikari lionhead growth pellets, twice a day. Shelled peas, once a day * Any new fish added to the tank? yes, 4 pearlscales * Any medications added to the tank? amoxicillin * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Please see description at the top of the post * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Mildy frayed doral fin, very red sides where slime coat peeled away, red, swollen looking gills. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? When I feed her flakes (as she cannot control her bouyancy and make it to the bottom to gather pellets) she will chew one or two and spit it out ground up. She sows interest in food, just not capable of consuming it.
  2. So I just got a 55 gallon last weekend and was moving the bacteria (in filter pad) from my 10 gallon growout tank into a Penguin 350 and forgot one thing....the conditioner. ... I added the conditioner as quickly as possible after forgetting about it (in 1 minutes time) - are the bacteria still living? Or has the tap already killed it already? On the bright side I also have an extra filter floss running in the 10g filter so I sould be fine - but starting with more helpful bacteria is better... Also, once the bacteria has been transferred, how long would it take until I could put my fish in? Thanks again.
  3. My tank is undergoing a bacterial bloom. I'm 150% sure of this. I did a really large water change took out too much water which killed the bacteria in my filter (idk how much). I test my water and ammonia/nitrite are ok. Nitrate is around 40ppm. My water is cloudy white. I'm afraid the fish will die. What should I do?
  4. Okay... So I'm new to this site and I'm new to fish-keeping, I'm 12, and I wandered why my fish was pooping long thin white strands, and struggling to push it out, I google'd it, and found out it has a bacterial infection, but I don't have enough money to buy any treatment for it yet, the next day, i fed it as normal, and went downstairs, came up to my bedroom to find my fish pooping, only it was normal, i thought his body had fought off the infection, and thought nothing else of it, but then at night he struggled as usual pooping white strands again, this has only happened 2 nights in a row, but I don't want my fourth fish to die can anyone help me? T
  5. I have two 3-4 inch oranda goldfish for a year now. My red and white oranda is fine, has no problems. My gold oranda, however, has a few white marks along the edge of her caudal fin. It is NOT ich, but looks more bacterial or fungal. I have been treating with pimafix, melafix, and added salt to the tank for about 4 days now, and while it hasn't gotten any worse, it really hasn't decreased either. Otherwise, she acts, eats, and looks fine. I am not sure what brought it up or what it is, but I was hoping for some treatment advice. I have the fish separated with a tank divider since the red/white oranda can be very aggressive towards her. Also, unrelated, but the gold oranda also 'nose dives.' I tried looking up what that could be, but can't find anything. She has always done this and I have treated both fish a couple months ago for parasites, to be safe, since I suspected flukes. Is this a behavioral thing or possibly something else? The red/white Oranda doesn't do this. The gold oranda is also kind of stupid overall, if that helps... lol Tank Set Up: 29 Gal 1 AquaClear 50 1 AquaTech 20-40 1 Fusion Air Pump 500 Water Stats from API Freshwater Master Kit: 7.5 pH 0 Amm 0 Nitrites 20 Nitrates 20-25% Weekly water change w/ added Prime and Easy Balance I feed them 2x daily, small amounts of Omega One flakes (primarily), TetraFin Color Enhancing Pellets (occasionally), and Tetra Dried Shrimp (daily). - I think I am going to switch feeding them to every other day. Note: THIS IS NOT MY FISH, but it looks EXACTLY what my fish has (and I can't get a decent picture myself) .JPG"]http://www.wetwebmedia.com/fwsubwebindex/Cypriniiform%20PIX/Goldfish%20PIX/Sid-whitefluffyspots[1].JPG Please help me out, I am so tired of fighting this kind of thing with my fish. I feel like it's a never ending battle.
