  1. Has anyone else had mollies kill and angelfish before because we got a new one two days ago and the mollies brutally attacked it and it then died and today we bought three new smaller ones and the mollies have killed or nearly killed one and I have had to pull the new angelfish out of the tank and into their own tank. Has anyone else witnessed this happening before as they leave my big angelfish alone and its getting frustrating as I want to try and pair my off as he is a nice colour and between 5-6 inches tall maybe taller
  2. I already have four angelfish that will be moving into my 42 gallon tank with my other tropical fish but I know it will still be overcrowded but my friend has this angelfish in a 28 litre tank and knows it won't be able to live in the tank forever and says if she does get rid of it she will give it to me but I can't house it, but it would be cramped in a 28 litre tank so what should I do if she does ask to give it to me when it gets a bit bigger??
  3. Here is a video update of my 50 gallon tropical tank, with my fairly large, super veil angelfish and friends. I tried to get a shot of Nergal, the common pleco, under her rocks, but you can't really see her. Maude, the largest angel, is being bratty to Maybelle (dark marble angel), and Jagger (bowed fin angel)- I think she has PMS, to be honest. I am sure all of us ladies can relate.
  4. I got a new angelfish a few days ago it's about 5inches tall and is black and my other one that I have is about 4inches tall and I have owned her (think it's a girl) for nearly a year I think but the new angelfish which is a male keeps guarding her and protecting part of the tank but she keeps swimming away unaware of him although they have taken a liking to each other do you guys think they will pair off and if so when?
  5. So, recently, my angelfish Angel has developed some sort of cotton on her mouth, and what I'm concerning to be is biofilm on her eye. No pictures, setting up a quaratine ASAP. 6. Day before water change so not the best pictures. Water is a little brown. This well get less and less the longer the tank is set up. I also found one of my guppies had passed away. So I did a count and looks like in the past two weeks I have lost 3. I still have five and they all look great. I have no idea how old those were since I got them from my friend. Also their is flood in the tank. Only way to get some of them out of hiding in the plants.
  7. Hi everyone, I am looking for a good quality dry food to feed my tropicals (particularly my Angelfish Odette) to help enhance colour and vigour. I currently just feed generic store bought dry food (i.e. Tetra granule stuff) alongside fresh veg and frozen bloodworm/daphnia, but I havent been happy with this for a little while now. My fish are healthy, and while they sometimes look great, other times Odette loses her bright blue "sheen". I think it is diet related (when she has less frozen food and more of the dry food her colours fade). Im starting to make my own gel food and will continue to feed fresh veg and frozen foods, but I also really want to find a good quality granulated/pellet food. I have been hearing some good things about the New Life Spectrum foods and wondered if any of you have tried this brand at all, either the goldfish or tropical varieties, if you have id love to hear from you, as I want to get a feel for the brand-quality (I myself am looking at the community, cichlid and discus preparations they offer). A brief forum search showed a few positive comments about NLS for but id like to hear about it more in depth if possible. If you have used it, did you find it was beneficial for growth/colour/health in your fish? would you recommend it? If not do you have any other suggestions on quality tropical foods (im also looking at Hikari but have heard mixed reviews). I know alot of you either have/do keep large tropicals so any advice would be great :]
  8. Hey Guys, Here is a quick 1min video I took of my tropical tank before cleaning it out last week. It shows you the fallout after the "plant massacre" and how much I need to get more green back in there ^^. Believe it or not this tank actually has 12 fish in it and 4 shrimp (including a monster of a bamboo shrimp!) but apparently they all decided to go into hiding as soon as I got the camera out. (Sorry for the jerky camera and focus, I havent recorded anything in a tank for a while and need to figure the settings out again, I recommend watching it in 720p but not fullscreen :] ) Im also battling clear algae/biofilm on the front glass so sorry about that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPkHThF9q9E Im actually having a dilema about my whole fishkeeping scenario at the moment. I am 100% obsessive about getting butterfly telescopes, but I really cant manage another large tank (im in the UK so no python). A few people have suggested rehoming Odette & co and getting teles for this tank so I can get the most satisfaction out of it. This is something I am a bit torn over because im attached to my fish at the moment but do dream of having goldies. My first attempt at keeping a GF did not go well and so if I rehomed Odette and it didnt work out with the GF again id be gutted! Plus id have to know my fish were going somewhre theyd be well looked after anyway. I think im going to stick with the trops for now and decide on a plan in the new year!
  9. I took a few pictures of the community tank. I am currently supplementing the crappy, plant killing standard lighting with a 23watt CFL bulb, and dang it makes a difference for some of these plants Three of my aponogeton are blooming, the newest growth on my giant hygros is significantly better quality than the sad lower half of the plants, and even my amazon swords are still alive. My crypt wendtii is producing a couple baby plants as well. Added the driftwood with the anubias, it is going to look much better when the plants have attached themselves to the wood and have grown. Cid loves the planted driftwood and uses it as his "throne" in the tank. He also looks so much better, his fins are all healed up. I do believe he is happier without the other angels. I swear, somehow he gave them all a columnaris infection to kill them off The cories love hanging out underneath the driftwood I love love love the black neon tetras and the bloodfin tetras. Both are so beautiful, but most photos don't do them justice. I also love how due to their "larger" size, the angelfish does not see them as snacks, opposed to the regular neons and glowlight tetras that got snacked up.
  10. Hi everyone, I have a quick question for all you Angelfish keepers out there. I got my angelfish Odette about 6 weeks ago now. Recently ive noticed that at water changes, when I turn the filter off, she sort of tilts to one side, like swimming at a diagonal angle instead of straight up. Once the tank is filled and turned on again she goes back to normal and she never seems stressed about it so I dont think its a problem, just a bit unusual. The only thing I can think that might cause it is maybe the change in pressure or maybe she is stronger on one side because of the filter flow, like she is used to overcompensating to stay upright. I have not kept angels for a few years but I dont recall my others ever doing this at WC. Do your angels ever do this? Do you think its pressure and/or because of the filter current? Should I be worried?
