They're acclimating to the "pond" water right now, but here's a shot of all of them together. These four have single anal fins. I really like the body shape of the one on the bottom left though. Supposedly this isn't a bad thing as long as you don't breed two together.

Hmm, so much for that resolution. I like small fish, and I've been keeping them for most of my life, mostly guppies with the occasional betta or oddball species. I also have a little desktop tank with Thai micro crabs. Had space for a ten-gallon in a built-in curio cabinet so I was looking at mollies, kind of sad they never got attention from hobby breeders like guppies and goldfish do - thought I would try to breed a more koi-like pattern into them or try to fix a top-view guppy strain. Anyway, swearing up and down I wanted goldfish look-alikes but not actual goldfish, I went looking for patterns and tail types, and eventually ran across tosakin. That sunk me pretty good. I'm not sure I could deal with a 55-gallon aquarium, and it would be difficult to justify the cost of the stand alone, but I sure can swing some indoor ponds in storage containers. No worries about flooding or cleaning acres of glass that way. Right now I only have one goldfish, a little black moor I got free last trip to the LFS because he'd shipped to them with cloudy eyes and some kind of fungal infection. I figured if I could bring him back I was okay taking care of fancies and he looks fantastic now, soooooooo I have some Tosakin juvies shipping in from Jeff Hiller next January and "ponds" going through fishless cycling now. I'm excited.

Hi, I am new here! I grew up with goldfish... in a bowl I was 4 at the time and didn't know any better, and we did do water changes every other day. Though I am fully aware now that this is not the way to keep fish! Since the I have done the whole tropical fish thing with tetras, danios, and guppies and such and now have an empty 10 gallon tank. All the tropical fish passed away from old age except a red eyed tetra that was at least 4 years old and not particularly nice to newcomers. Well Betty, said red eyed tetra, passed away about a month and a half ago, and in a way I am relieved because she just looked tired and worn out for the past year. The tank is in good condition as it the water, which I tested fairly recently (though I definitely will test again before I get any fish). I am here because I have a, perhaps crazy, dream. I want to breed tosakins! I know this is something I will not be doing right this second being as I will need to get fish and raise them and have at least one pair and significantly more tank space (obviously) and perhaps some experience with other goldies that aren't so expensive. I thought I would say hi and see if anyone had any thoughts about this dream of mine! Also, does anyone have suggestions for my 10 gallon? I know it's definitely not big enough for goldies long term, possibly even short term...
