I bought two 150W Jager heaters from Amazon and they sent me twelve. There were six packed to a box and I guess someone in the warehouse just grabbed the boxes instead of opening them. I'll never run out of heaters as long as I live. :

Hopefully someone can respond before I go out shopping. I have an urge to spend money. I recently moved in my housing for the school year on campus and to no surprise, it is very poorly insulated and cold. I'd reckon it's probably like 37f outside and only 40f in here. Seriously. In the past I've had no issues keeping a warm room/house so I never thought twice about getting a heater for my tank. I also don't want to encourage breeding (although now I think I have two boys) so I've never considered a warmer tank. With this cold spell in Wisconsin, my fish have suddenly gotten rather lethargic. They're moving slower in general and like to laze together. They seem perfectly healthy so I think the cold as gotten to them - stupidly my only thermometer got left behind for the Danio tank so I can't get a temp on it right now. Even if I don't come home with a heater, I will return with a thermometer. Basically, do you guys have a minimum temperature on your tank? If I should get a heater, do you have a solid recommendation that won't break the bank? I have a 20g tall currently. I don't mind purchasing a new heater when I upgrade.

I just opened a new Fluval M100 heater last night…stuck it in the tank and plugged it in. The blue pilot light lit up and I went to bed. This morning the water is still cold…pilot light is out and heater is set 72*. I took heater out of it's holder and pilot light turned by on…secured heater and light stayed on for about 20 min. Now it is out again. Is there a trick to this? Do I need to add warm water to get it near 72 then the heater will take over?

Well I was all excited for my pretty new heater, but the way I've abused it these last ten minutes you might think otherwise! Not realizing that it wasn't packed in a hundred twisties and zip-ties, I pulled open the package of my new heater and it slid out - landed on the table. Picked it up and there was no visible damage, so I figured all was well then got it ready for the tank. THEN, a minute after putting it in, I turn around to see that the heater slid through its holder and that some of the top part was submerged. Ugh. I doubt it will be a problem, I mean these things are built to be around water and I'm sure the manufacturers account for that, but should I be worried? I doubt I should but at the same time, it was a bit more than I should have spent right now sooooo any thoughts? EDIT: Derp. wow. It's a Fluval M200 http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3579693&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo Haha sorry. This one is glass coated, partly why it's freaking me out more. It still lights up, appears to be working just fine. But the instructions do say to make sure the water line stays up to a certain point, and not past another.
