I have ventured into plants a bit and, of course, am getting some brown algae on them. The snails will eat it to an extent but not enough of it!
I remember CindiL had posted in a thread that she uses a bleach solution, I believe, to soak her plants and remove the brown algae. The problem is I can't find the thread/post. I don't remember if it was one of her threads or someone elses? If anyone can find it, I'd love to read it again.
I was also wondering if potassium permanganate would get rid of the diatoms? I haven't used bleach on my plants but I have soaked them in PP when I first got them. I guess I'm a bit more comfortable with PP than bleach. Does anyone know if PP would be as effective as bleach in removing diatoms? If so, would I stick with the light purplish solution that I initially disinfected the plants with?
Thanks.
