  1. KH: 8 GH: 15 AM: 0 NITRATE: Between 10-20 NITRITE: 0 TEMP: 78F TANK SIZE: 55G INHABITANTS: 4 fish total: 2 very small juvenile GF, 1 moor and another Telescope. 2 quite large female GF: 1 Red Oranda and 1 Orange Ryukin (both about 2 years old) FILTERS: 1 hang on the back '50 gal sized' filter 1 Lg 402 Fluval cannister filter 1 large sponge filter with power head (pointed against wall to minimize tank disturbance) 1 medium sized bio wheel filter MAINTENANCE: 50 GAL WEEKLY WATER CHANGES (Occasionally I will do 2 33% water changes in one week). All filters are squeezed out in old aquarium water. Bottom, with very large river stones is vacuumed. FOOD: Frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, some veggie dry (small) pellets, spirulina flakes, veggie based gel food Problem: This weekend I noticed one anchor worm on my large Oranda- she was swimming normally with it. I used forceps and pull the worm off (right behind her back fin). Now, 2 days later, I am noticing that both of my large goldies (the Ryukin and Oranda) are sitting on the bottom of the tank (cutely always by each other) with their dorsal fins sagging and both looking sad. I notice too that they occasionally seem agitated like they have an itch- but cannot see any parasites or other worms. Coloration is very normal (healthy), they eat when offered food, and are only active if I am in the room and interact with them. I do not see any white spots, additional anchor worms or anything outwardly weird. I am very concerned as this is not their normal behavior. As a precaution I have the tank at 2.5 salinity (2.5 tsp per gal of salt) and plan on raising it to 3.0 (3 tsp per gal) tonight. I've also done 2 Methylene Blue dips at 1 tsp per 5 gal (double the standard tank medicating dose) the last two days using existing tank water. This has resulted in daily water changes of about 15%. I did feed the goldies split pees and found large, very green portions of feces upon vacuuming the tank- the next day- so I am making the assumption this is not constipation. Last night I also fed bits of raw garlic to fight off any parasitic issues- which was readily eaten. Any insight as to what is causing this i would be most helpful--- heading the AQ store to get more salt...ugh. Thanks!
  2. Hey. I've had my goldfish nami for almost 2 years now. I want to say he's a mix of oranda and fantail. I recently moved from NJ to Maryland in feb, and since the move he's been sitting on the bottom of the tank on his side. At first first he wasn't really eating and all the bottom side sitting on sand was giving him sores. I immediately moved him into a quarantine tank. After about a month ish of treatment and cotton swabs, his sores on the gills and body were healed, but he's still on his side. Its now been about 5 months? His health has been increasing, then decreasing and the only reason I haven't euthanized him is because I feel like he's trying so hard to get back up, but can't because he just sinks to the bottom? It seems like his body weight is too much him to get back up. He also has grown very very little compared to my other goldfish since I moved. I recently came back from working out of town, and when I came back he looks really thin and weak, and I've been feeding a mix of JumpStart and Medigold from goldfish connections as well has rephasy and he is a lot more lively, but just seems like he can't get off his side. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level- 0ppm * Nitrite Level 0ppm * Nitrate level 0ppm * Ammonia Level 0ppm * Nitrite Level 0ppm * Nitrate level 0ppm * Ph Level, Tank 7.5ppm * Ph Level, Tap 7.5ppm Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API freshwaster master drops test kit * Water temperature? unknown * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 5months 29gal * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Aquaclear 110 * How often do you change the water and how much? 7days 75-80% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 2days 80-90% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 (in the video I temporary had 2 2" fantails in the tank, but nami has been in "quarantine" by herself for 5months * What kind of water additives or conditioners? seachem Prime. * What do you feed your fish and how often? 2-3 times a day. Lately feeding him medigold, jumpstart, hikari baby sinking pellet, rephasy gel food. * Any new fish added to the tank? n/a * Any medications added to the tank? aquarium salt, api stress coat, api, melafix * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. in feb, when nami first started bottom sitting and not eating, because of the open sores, I did alcohol swabs to kill the bacteria. I did this only about twice for only the new sores. Over the past couple months I have used a combination of melafix, pimafix, aquarium salt and stress. I also have done a anti-bac bath (7day process) from goldfishconnections and that helped a lot when nami had open sores. I started used melafix/pimafix again recently because I noticed some red streaks on his tail. His health has getting better, than dropping, which is why I haven't given up hope. He seems full of more strength at the moment and trying to swim rightside up, but it seems like the body weight is too much for him to lift himself up. However, he has grown very very little (a few .01ozs) in the past 5 months, compared to my other goldfish. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? - used to have grains of salt? previously when he was bottom sitting on his side, a few grains of sand would be embedded into his body. I removed them and removed the sand from the tank. Used to have sores and fungus on gills but that was healed after some time and through the anti bac bath. Currently has some (few) red streaks on tail and small amount of finrot on one corner of the tail. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc. Bottom side sitting for the past 5 months. Originally was not eating as much but now eats very well when dropped food near him. I am currently trying to upload a video, but will post one soon ; 3; ~ I don't want to give up hope on nami :C
  3. Hi all, About three months ago my mother noticed that one of her fish had gotten slightly fat on one of it's sides. As time progressed, it slowly became more and more bloated to the point where it became very difficult for it to swim and it would spend all of it's time sitting on the bottom of the tank. A month later it was isolated into it's own tank. At this point it had displayed another symptom where it was struggling to eat. It would actively try to find and swallow pellets/peas but end up having to spit it out afterwards. We had thought that it was suffering from constipation so my mother did not feed anything to it for a while. A week later, it was able to consume food as usual but it remained bloated and mostly motionless. It has been several months now and the symptoms remain the same. It would sit on the same corner day in day out, only moving when startled or when it's feeding time. I do not have a test kit at this time so I am unable to provide test results. I will post the test results as soon as I am able to obtain one (which may be in 1 or 2 days time). * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? - 5.28 Gallons (20 Litres) - About two months * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? - Unkown * How often do you change the water and how much? - Every week - 10% water change * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? - 5 days - 10% water change * How many fish in the tank and their size? - No other fish is in the tank * What kind of water additives or conditioners? - Aquarium salt BEFORE it had been isolated - Currently none * What do you feed your fish and how often? - Initially peas, but not anymore as it is unable to eat them when they fall to the bottom - Now it gets fed "Goldfish Granules" pellets - Once a day * Any new fish added to the tank? - No * Any medications added to the tank? - "Melafix" during each water change * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. - Tried feeding it peas (roughly two months ago) - Isolated into another tank (roughly two months ago) - Add Melafix during each water change (roughly two months ago) * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? - Tail appears a bit damaged but not too sure about this - Very bloated * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? - Stays at the bottom of the tank in the same corner everyday. - Recently has a lot trouble sitting itself upright (would fall over or sit at odd angles). - It does not move unless startled or when eating. - Initially it had problems eating (it would attempt to swallow the food but spit it out after a while), however this symptom seems to be gone for now. Images for reference Pictures from one year ago I realize that waiting months before finally seeking help is pretty horrific but time constraints haven't really allowed for it. It might be too late to do anything to help, but any advice would still be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
