Hello Everyone! I've been in a no-wifi tent since Thursday but came back today to find the most wonderful package! Some weeks ago, I commissioned Charlie to paint a picture of our house. I have a love/hate relationship to the place, but my husband adores it. Since it was both his birthday and our anniversary, I thought a painting of the house would be perfect. And it his! He loves it. My camera is out of batteries, but here is a quick iPad pic. Better ones to come! Thank you, Charlie!!!

Hi! Just over a week ago I bought a nice young black Ranchu from City Farmers. There were two others and I really wanted to buy all of them, but I had to be sensible and not overstock my tank. Although advertised as "Black Ranchu" I've heard of stories where a black goldfish ended up not being a black goldfish anymore. I've read around and heard that it's usually to do with the kind of food it's being fed (ie. Colour enhancing food), tank quality and genetics. Most of the goldfish food I have though advertises, "Natural Colour Enhancers." Also read that a good amount of sunlight helps maintain their colour. So does anybody who have or had black goldfish/Ranchu have any other tips on how they maintained the colour? Thanks! As far as things have gone, the little dude/dudette(?) hasn't changed yet so here's to fingers crossed that it's from a pure-black bloodline. Here's two photos of it's chubby little face...

As promised, here is my tank with new substrate JBL Sansibar Black. It's kind of fine sand and my goldfish really love it, the grain size is so much smaller than my previous pool filter sand. But rinsing this kind of sand is a pain, took me 2 hours rinsing but the water is still a little bit cloudy after 3 days. The Video (with background music this time YAY): The Pics:

So today I was cleaning the tank and Dassu, one of my black Ranchus, panicked and swam up behind the HOB outflow and scraped off two of his little scales...I know it would grow back easily - but what color. The scraped part is now metallic, and I worry that it would grow back into that color. If it does, I might just nickname him "sparkly-butt". Thoughts?

HAPPY LATE NIGHT GUYS? Just to give you a short story of what happened: A few months ago I had some sort of disease in my tank which started to effect all of my GF in which made them lean sideways on the bottom of the tank and turned their belly's blood red. Did my best to keep them alive (didn't touch meds since I couldn't find what disease/problem it was) and did daily water changes - all were wiped out within two days. Lesson Learned: Always be prepared for whats coming and have a water test kit ( which I will promise to get tomorrow >.>) beside your tank 24/7.... After that - I gave up completly on goldfish - cleaned up all the water - stuck on a heater - and bought 7 hardy tetras (glowlight). Visitng San Francisco yesterday I went back to check out a goldfish shop that I use to always see sell exotic GF from. And guess what I've found. Black Jap. Ranchus! Couldn't get my manliness up to not get them. Ever since my goldfish reign I always wanted buffalo-cheeck ranchus, and finnaly I found some - but at a steep price.. Right after going home I settled them into a bucket with an airstone and modded my 55 gallon back into its original state in just a few hours. Now, where did my tetras go? I had a 10 gallon and AC 30 left over from my previous tanks/ideas and filled it up with all the old tank water and some media. 7 tetras in a 55 gallon with an AC 70, Penguin 350, and heater is too cost effective anyways. Did a 15% water change with Prime today and will be getting that test kit pretty soon. They're only an inch long and already showing some fine wen growth. -KK

My fish Titan has been in quarintine and has recently begun developing black on his fins. at first i thought it was because of high water levels so i checked the levels and did a water change... But the levels where perfectly fine... So i was wondering if goldfish can get black coloring? ... because i thought that they could only get lighter like the colors orange or white...

have been thinking how much i dislike the horrid clear air tubing i have (which goes white & nasty looking after a couple of weeks) & wondered if there was such a thing as black tubing. one ebay search later & lo & behold there is my black airline!! thinking i'd found something special i return to kokos & typed in a search, only to discover it had been mentioned here before... in 2005. i am soooo cutting edge! oh well, black tubing is on its way
