How many Goldfish

  1. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/3231335865.html
  2. It isn't the prettiest thing and I am rethinking the substrate but I quite love my little Java fern on the left and the lucky bamboo (which next month will hang out in the filter (; ) And I finally got around to pruning all of the ferns! QUESTION: If i find tidbits of microsword floating at the top that are still 'rooted' can I replant them? My feeerrrnnnnn<3 Also I am never ever going to do water changes with my fish in the water ever ever again. Okay.
  3. I set it up back in January, and I didn't know about cycling until after I put the fish in >.< They made it (duh) even though they went through 3 different filters and lived for 3 weeks without one. (It broke, I couldn't afford to replace it) They were going to go to GreenTea but we found out we couldn't make the drive to meet up. Then I lucked into brand new Marineland 350s for 8 dollars! I had to rush them into 55 when my algae started dying... Anyways, here are Tui and La before their color faded! Oh, and anyone who can tell me where the names came from get ten points. Yaaay ten points!* *Points are not redeemable anywhere at all. They are imaginary. Subject to change without notice. First comment with answer gets the useless ten points. Restrictions apply, results may very.
  4. I didn't think my water change through. With that being said, I had to think of a way to pretty quickly fill up my tank so I can go to bed before 2 for the first time this week. This isn't a permanent solution, as most large aquarium owners will be smart enough to get some sort of pump. Now bare with me guys, it's really rough Like, REALLY rough New lesson learned. Buy better pump. The water hose goes into the gravel cleaner, gets siphoned into the tank. The hose has a rubber band pressing the trigger so the water keeps flowing. All you have to do is match the speeds! Charly winssss :krazy: :krazy: :krazy:
  5. I finally set up my 29g tank (my first one). I'm expecting my first goldfish to arrive later this week! He's a tri-color Ryukin and I'll definitely post pictures when he arrives. I decorated the tank this afternoon and wanted to see what you all thought ^^
  6. I was just curious to know... Who gets support to goldfish keeping from their boyfriend, girlfriend, fiance(e), husband or wife or even family members or friends? My boyfriend used to be reticent about the thought of even having a tank in our future house, and now he fells in love with a new goldfish every time we visit the LPS and asks to bring him home...! 7. Here's a link to a chart that I use that's always been very helpful. The chart is from alysta.com. The table lists many of the common sizes of fish tanks, along with dimensions, weight (empty and full), and whether the tank has a tempered glass bottom or not. http://alysta.com/books/fishtank.htm
  8. I've been wanting to start keeping fancy goldfish for a while now and I've been a lurker on this site for a bit. That said, I've been trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to do and I thought maybe I could get some insight from some of the experts here. I'm really interested in setting it up right the first time, as I really don't like the thought of tormenting some poor fish by making silly choices. Here's what I've been thinking about: Tank: 36 gallon (I'm leaning towards a bare bottom tank) Fish: 1 Black Moor and 1 Oranda Decorations: a few plastic plants and probably some smooth river rocks I'm not sure about filtration though. I like the idea of using two filters in order to accomplish the job, but I'm stil confused about which models or types are good for a novice like myself. Also not sure about what type of bubbler to use. Am I missing anything else? What do you guys think? Thank you for your time and thanks to everyone who contributes to this site. So much great info and awesome fishies!!
  9. I finally got around to properly decorating Judas' home. Iwagumi style, even! I mostly just used stuff I had laying around in the fish stuff bins. He is having a blast checking everything out right now. And a few pics of the handsome guy, just because I also have a funny video of him playing with a piece of plant that I want to show you guys, but youtube is having difficulties... I will keep trying to upload it though.
  10. I would like your opinions on different filters from petsmart. I am looking to spend no more than $50. So far, the ones I have considered are the Top Fin 60 Power Filter and the Tetra Whisper EX 70. Are these good filters? I need a really quiet one, as it will be in my bedroom. I have the Top Fin 10 in my 10 gallon, and it is really quiet, and works pretty well. Its not absolutely AMAZING, but i like it:). I read the reviews on Petsmart.com, but there are so many different opinions on them, and some people may be doing something wrong causing them to not work, but I'm sure you guys know what you're talking about. Thanks:)
  11. Hi! I'm saving up for a 30 gallon tank. I have 2 ryukin goldfish which will live in it. i will cycle it, of course:) i have been looking at pictures, and i am actually starting to like the idea of a bare bottom tank. i would scatter some of those glass pebbles along the bottom to make it look pretty. how can i extend my filter intake tube so that it picks up waste and leftover food? oh-by the way...im thinking of putting some gravel in a corner for my goldies to play with. please tell me anything else you think i should know.
