How many Goldfish

  1. Short video this time, camera ran out of battery lol
  2. Sooooooo on my way back from Jasper this weekend (which was soooooo much fun!), I got my BF to stop in the city, and I ended up picking up my first ever fancy goldfish! I have only ever owned single tails, so I am so excited!!! He was the only one left in his tank, and he was very active and adorable, so I had to have him!!! Plus s/he was only $3!!! No name yet, but here is my new baby Has the cutest little grumpy face ever!!!!!!!!! [/url] And here is his tank buddy, my albino long finned bristlenose pleco (chillen under the leaf) I also got myself a new betta, which I will post pictures of soon
  3. I just realized that I've left you guys hanging regarding my little cuties We recently had a photoshoot, and I wanted to share the results. Pickle says hi! My lil' ECR, Dorito, and fantail Clem are NOT amused! Speckle is zooming! Mr. B says HEY!!! Mr. B is the 'big man in the tank'! And as a bonus...any of you guys remember that little three-legged kitten I had bottle-raised over the summer? Here she is - her name is Juno
  4. I recently learned about the quarantine process. I currently have one ranchu, purchased one month ago in a 30 gallon tank. My tank recently cycled. I am getting an additional ryukin. My quarantine setup is a sterilite 32 quart storage tub with an air stone. My ranchu was not quarantined or treated with aquarium salt, should I quarantine both goldfish together or only the new ryukin? Is aquarium salt effective or necessary? I plan to perform daily water change on the quarantine tank and quarantine for two weeks if separated. Any advice or suggestion is appreciated. Thanks
  5. Hi friends 3 days ago I noticed a small white fluff on my ranchu's wen. I thought it might have not been anything since I had just treated with powder prazi & it may have been a prazi granule since they do not fully dissolve (that I have noticed). so.. I checked back a few hours later and the spot had become bigger and fluffy. when I removed him from the tank, the fluffy fell out and a shallow hole with surface blood at the opening was observed: in setting up QT, which only took about a half hour or 40 mins, another site appeared, just below that one and closer to the eye once I noticed this, I contacted dnalex for his opinion and waited a reply: about another 4 hours passed where I saw another site forming on the left that looked bigger than the one on the right, alex had responded, QT was up and we were ready to treat.. here's the left side site: we both agreed, it was nothing more serious than a superficial bacteria forming a surface infection. and so we agreed to commence treatment with Tri-Sulfa (if anyone in AU needs this medicine, please PM me, I have plenty ) as well as some Metronidazole added to the water. the following morning, I checked on Mr. CC and the left site was looked worse but from how Alex explained it to me, it shows all the good signs of healing in this photo, you can see that both sites on the right have already taken to healing well. this is an interesting photo, you will see how the fluffies just come away from the wound as a long cotton string. they trail the fish round and round the tank until they fall off: I microscoped the cotton like strand to see if there was anything moving.. all I observed were lots of fibres and nothing more: this is ending day 3.. there are no new sites that have presented and the healing process seems to be speedy about 15 hours ago: about 5 hours ago: and a big thank you & happy dance for Uncle Alex and all his wonderful knowledge & guidance. an absolute asset to this community. Thank You my friend we still have a few more days to a week or even more, depending on what pace the finer detail takes to heal.. overall, we're very happy
  6. Lately, I've noticed that my 2 largest oranda have been acting pretty aggressive towards each other and their 2 tank mates when feeding. After they finish snacking on the pellets that they've snatched while they were sinking, they start to patrol the area where the pellets lay. They then begin to start pushing any other fish that come into the vicinity of the pellets. When it's just them, they starting fighting over the spot. Is this normal? I've tried to move around where I let the pellets sink but I've observed the same behavior no matter where the pellets fall.
  7. I'm finally in the Ranchu game! After a long time waiting, my local pet stop finally got a shipment of Ranchus in. Though, all of them were pretty small. After about 15 minutes of evaluating them all, I chose this lil guy. http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/incredibleSE/media/IMG_20131024_194508.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/incredibleSE/media/20131024_192145.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 After a couple days in the quarantine tank, the lil guy is now in the main tank with the 3 Orandas. Excited to see him grow. I still have to think of a name for him so suggestions are welcomed!
  8. Hey guys! I haven't had any Internet for 5 weeks because we've moved house. The move was so stressful, it took me hours to take the tank apart, and when we got to the new house we couldn't get into the drive for 4 hours because of the removal men. The fish coped well though, and are looking well here are a few photos of them in their travel box, and in the tank (this is how the tank was set up when I moved in, it's been pulled apart somewhat since and isn't looking great) I now live literally 30 seconds drive from an aquatic shop...so I can't help but go and have a look regularly I'd seen a nice 160 litre tank that had been reduced. It was there for a week or two, and I couldn't make my mind up. Then one day, I'd taken my sister with me, and in a display tank tucked away in the corner of the shop, she pointed out two really cute ranchus. I couldn't leave them there, they looked so miserable, so I bought them there and then, and the tank too I think they are both female Here are some pictures of them on the day I set the tank up. I shall get some more pictures tomorrow I need to increase the filtration, and the tank will be planted up eventually Love this picture And this one
  9. Hey guys! I didn't find a nice calico ranchu but i did find this cute little guy here. He has a mustache! ( nor she). =} say hello to Stache!
  10. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) - 0.00 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank) - 0.00 ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) - 5 ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) - 1.00 ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) - 0.00 ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) - 0 ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) - 8.2 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) - 8.2 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 78 F * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 135 gallons, running just under a year * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Fluval FX5, AquaClear 500 * How often do you change the water and how much? weekly, 90% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? yesterday 10/6, 90% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 6 fish, 3 medium-sized, 3 large * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? Soilent Green, once a day * Any new fish added to the tank? no * Any medications added to the tank? Prazi, one dose yesterday. Salt at 0.1% * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. see above * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Bloody streaks at the base of all the fins. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? - he seems a little down. I think he may be trying to bottom-sit but the current in the tank is pretty strong. This is kind of an ongoing issue I'm having with this fish. This is one of my DO fish that I got about 2 months ago. When I had him in QT, I noticed one morning that the areas around his fins were bloody. I started him on Metro Meds, and it cleared up overnight. I kept him on MMs for 2 weeks. Since then, I've noticed a random bloody spot here and there, but it's always gone again the next day. But this is the worst I've seen it. I did a dose of Prazi yesterday because all the fish have been yawning a bit, and most of them were due for a treatment anyway. Here's a video of him:
  11. Brought a couple of guys in this weekend. I didn't notice how big they had gotten until I had put them in the bucket. I'm going to have to buy an extra fluval this coming weekend for sure.
  12. Hi everyone, I don't know anything about Ranchus, and didn't really like them before I saw how gorgeous they can be on Koko's! They are cute as puppies! And remind me of dugongs! If you could share your ranchu pics and info that would make me so happy! Do they have any special needs? Can you keep them with other kinds of goldfish? Do you Ranchu parents actually get anything done in life, or do you just sit around and watch them wiggle?!
  13. So a few days ago I decided to go to a small, local fish store I had heard about to check if they sold prazipro, so I could save on shipping and FINALLY use it on my goldies (since I got them before I knew about koko's or the QT process... ) Anyway, I got the Prazipro at a great price, and I also came across this little darling. I named her Penny. I just couldn't resist, and now they are all getting the proper treatment that new fish should get!! (I really wish I had a better camera than the one on my iphone... oh well. )
  14. Hear ye, hear ye... this is an epic saga of feeding candy the ECR Ranchu. I thought this would be interesting to share! When I got Candy from East Coast Ranchu he was (and is) in perfect condition and healthy! However, he would not eat. After many messages exchanged with Cynthia (ECR) we were desperatly trying to find out why Candy would not eat. We tried putting him in his own tank (still no luck), so we tried a new water conditioner (no luck!), we tried Parasite Guard just incase parasites had cropped up (if he had had an attack while getting to me or gotten them from my fish) nothing! Then Cynthia sent me garlic appatite enhancer and a feeding ring like she used with him before I got him. I have not tried the garlic yet but as soon as I popped the feeding ring into the tank and put some food in it he started chowing down! What a picky little fish - he was just yearning for his feeding ring. This just goes to show that any little change in plans or schedual will make a big difference in your fishes habbits and life. I thought it would be a funny fish food anicdote to share. Any thoughts, comments or similar stories?
  15. When I bought my 3 ranchus in April, Skittles was always a little too buoyant. I halved the water level in my tank for a while to decrease the pressure, but the noise from the waterfalling HOB filters was driving my hubby and I nuts! Now Skittles is having trouble getting down from the top. I haven't checked my parameters in a month and the TAP water is horrible!! Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank)0.5 * Nitrite Level(Tank)0.25 * Nitrate level(Tank)5-10 * Ammonia Level(Tap)1 * Nitrite Level(Tap)0.5 * Nitrate level(Tap)5-10 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.6 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)7.8 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? 77 * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 55gal 2 months and used established media in filter to speed process * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? AC70 and AC110 * How often do you change the water and how much? every 5-7 days 60-75% depending on how much I've been feeding * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Sun 7/21 I changed 75% and then today I added about 23 or so gallons to top tank so that is wasn't half empty any more * How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 small ranchu 2in from nose to base of tail * What kind of water additives or conditioners? prime and sometime koi clay * What do you feed your fish and how often? I've been feeding FBW almost daily to try to grow a wen, blanched spinach, FBS (spiralina enhanced), NLS-Thera A, Saki-Hikari (purple bag), frozen blanched peas. I feed 2x-6x per day depending on if I am working a 12 hr shift or not * Any new fish added to the tank? no * Any medications added to the tank? salt and prazi when I first got them * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? no * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Poop is short and dark and color of food. Eats like a maniac. Only abnormal is this excessive buoyancy issue... Has a very hard time getting to the bottom and staying there. He floats up butt first. I have to post pics from my phone so those will be on there way. I do not know why I am cursed with floaty fish What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and this was happening before the stupid tap water!!!!!!
  16. Ok. So. I went a teensy little bit insane, and bought 3 goldfish from Dandy Orandas. They arrived this morning and I am completely in love with them. This is the most exciting package, ever. Kirin oranda, red/white crown pearlscale, and red/white ranchu. They are freaking HUGE. The oranda is the size of my fist. "Gurl please, I am fabulous." "Photobomb, lol!" "Your argument lacks merit. Do you see my face? This is my skeptical face." Aaaand a video, in case the pic-spam wasn't enough.
  17. Meet Catbug! I love the little bit of red on the top, and the dark tail. Do you think s/he'll change colors? That would be okay by me!! The video/pictures were taken by East Coast Ranchu. This beauty is gonna live in my brand new 40g! I'm in love! Here's a youtube link: I'll be sure to post my own videos/pics of opening this little one when s/he comes in the mail! And after!!!
  18. Hey everyone, I got my 2 Goldfishes on June 19, 2013 Heres some pictures for you guys. Their names are Puff & Tuff, Puff is a Calico Ranchu and Tuff is a Red Ryukin I currently house them in a 29 gallon tank. Hope you guys enjoy the pictures Puff: Tuff: Puff & Tuff ☺ : Thanks for looking !
  19. So today I was cleaning the tank and Dassu, one of my black Ranchus, panicked and swam up behind the HOB outflow and scraped off two of his little scales...I know it would grow back easily - but what color. The scraped part is now metallic, and I worry that it would grow back into that color. If it does, I might just nickname him "sparkly-butt". Thoughts?
  20. From EastCoastRanchu on ebay. Not hear yet, just paid for it. I don't like the dark spot on its tail but nothing was perfect. So I went with this one. Boy or girl? I can tell on other fish but not goldfish. It was either lemonhead or metallic and since I already have True Gold I decided to get the lemonhead. Now all I want is a chocolate oranda and a blue oranda. Can't wait to post pictures when I get it!
  21. Hey all! So what I suspect is my male ranchu is not showing any interest in breeding dispite the fact that he has his breeding stars? Is there any way to speed up the process besides hand spawning?
  22. so this is an actual video.. no still pics like before. just a general update
  23. HAPPY LATE NIGHT GUYS? Just to give you a short story of what happened: A few months ago I had some sort of disease in my tank which started to effect all of my GF in which made them lean sideways on the bottom of the tank and turned their belly's blood red. Did my best to keep them alive (didn't touch meds since I couldn't find what disease/problem it was) and did daily water changes - all were wiped out within two days. Lesson Learned: Always be prepared for whats coming and have a water test kit ( which I will promise to get tomorrow >.>) beside your tank 24/7.... After that - I gave up completly on goldfish - cleaned up all the water - stuck on a heater - and bought 7 hardy tetras (glowlight). Visitng San Francisco yesterday I went back to check out a goldfish shop that I use to always see sell exotic GF from. And guess what I've found. Black Jap. Ranchus! Couldn't get my manliness up to not get them. Ever since my goldfish reign I always wanted buffalo-cheeck ranchus, and finnaly I found some - but at a steep price.. Right after going home I settled them into a bucket with an airstone and modded my 55 gallon back into its original state in just a few hours. Now, where did my tetras go? I had a 10 gallon and AC 30 left over from my previous tanks/ideas and filled it up with all the old tank water and some media. 7 tetras in a 55 gallon with an AC 70, Penguin 350, and heater is too cost effective anyways. Did a 15% water change with Prime today and will be getting that test kit pretty soon. They're only an inch long and already showing some fine wen growth. -KK
