  1. So I think my elite 50wattt submersible heater is dieing( got it used with the ten gallon it's in.) Any suggestions for a new one, what brand do you like?
  2. Ok, just to show off the girls currently in QT. I have lost one of the females from the previous topic (the brown/purple/red-ish one) due to being overly sensitive to salt. But as of now, these six will be sharing a tank: Fingers crossed that the QT for all of these is uneventful
  3. A few pics I took of him over the last couple days. I think the nerites are slowly thinning out the spot algae. He is so funny! He gets so worked up when he sees me or the female in the tank next to him, has started to make a bubble nest, and is not seriously bothering the neons or frogs. He chases them away when he is in sexy time mood, but that's all. The water lettuce is really funny. It is spreading out like frogbit Also, I hate this tank. If I had known a year ago that acrylic sucks so bad, I never would have gotten this piece of crap. The material causes these weird circle reflections of the, I can't properly clean the algae off without scratching the tank, same goes for hard water stains all over the top and some tape residue on the outside Ah well, the fish are still happy inside.
  4. Kingsley has been doing so much better after his metro treatment and epsom salt treatment. It looks like his eye is blind, but it is not anywhere near as swollen. He even built a bubble nest and flared! Can someone tell me what that white spot is? I think it was there through his metro treatment, but I am not sure.... He was being hard to photograph! Can someone tell me what these fish are? They are strangely furry
  5. [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? 0ppm [*]Nitrite Level? 0ppm [*]Nitrate level? 0ppm [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 7.2 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 7.0 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Mardel Strips [*]Water temperature? ~75 d F [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 2.5 gallon hosptital [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Aquatech 3 gallon [*]How often do you change the water and how much? 4 times weekly, 70% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? One large betta [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? Betta pellets, occasionally bloodworms [*]Any new fish added to the tank? No [*]Any medications added to the tank? No [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Popeye \: Still appears to have raised scales [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? I haven't seen him eat for a couple of days Poor Kingsley is not doing as well as I thought. Last night I noticed his eye was looking bad, but didn't have good lighting to be sure. Now it is obvious. It is much larger than the other, and it is clouded over. He also still appears to have raised scales, though this might be full on dropsy by now >.< Even though they seemed to be going down at first. I have kept his water completely clean At first I thought his lack of energy was because of boredom so I put a plant in with him. It was disinfected before being placed with him. Now he has popeye \: I was hoping there is something I can do to help him, but unfortunately I am strapped for cash after rent, bills, and a couple of projects that were put into place before this happened. I am hoping with the start of the holidays we will be making more money, but for now all I have on hand is salt and epsom salt \: I might be able to get metro sometime next week, but by then I don't know if I can help him ): He is 3 years old and has lived in squalor in the care of a drug addict who couldn't have cared less for him. His water was probably changed maybe 4-5 times. After she was evicted we found him there, and took him in. He had raised scales. He had been eating bloodworms when I fed them to him but he stopped about 3 days ago \: I thought I forgot to dose his water with prime so I did that when I noticed he wasn't eating. So I tried again 2 days ago. Then last night I saw his eye looked weird and it was my fishes fasting day. So now I am here. Poor Kingsley ): It seems like he has the worst luck. Oh, and that black stuff is just the remains of the old substrate that hid in the rims.
  6. I like to organize my pictures into one timeline, so some of these pictures are already on the site (: Something New: My Pearlscale. It could be something fishy, but it's actually more new than the fishy thing... If that makes sense. I still don't have a name for her. But she is super cute, I really like her. There is a perfect name for her out there somewhere! Today When I got her, she was a little pale. She is super small, only like the size of a quarter. She has perked right up since being put in with my other fish in QT. Everyone is about to be treated for prazi (: Something Fishy: Yukis new diggs, and pictures of my new Ryukins and Oranda (though not the best pictures). Mushu, my little Ryukin (: Chocolate Ryukin, his hump isn't as well developed as Mushu, but he is pretty and big! Sashimi, my cute little panda oranda. She has some cool yellow coloring under that black. (: Yuki's new pad. It's going to get more plants soon (: Something Cute: Otter and Cloud! My two bottle fed boys. Cloud is an orphan I hand raised. When I got him he had a gash on his side and was only one week old. This baby is a fighter and he is now almost 8 pounds of Handsome. Otter is only about 4 weeks old and is adorable. Cloud has adopted him as his own baby, and cleans and stimulates him to go poo. They cuddle and play together :3 My boys :3
  7. I sadly and suddenly lost all of my rosy red minnows for no apparent reason recently. :c I walked in and they were all dead. Barnaby, my BN pleco and my apple snail were all in excellent shape and have been perfect. Eight rosy reds all dead. so I deep cleaned his tank and put a bunch of plants in. Along with an amazon sword and my poor little anubia that my goldfish brutalized. He's too impossible to get a photo of when he is demanding to be fed. xD
  8. [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? 0 [*]Nitrite Level? 0 [*]Nitrate level? 0 [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 7.6 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 7.8 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Mardel Strips [*]Water temperature? 74 [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 2.5, 4 months [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Aquatech 1-3 [*]How often do you change the water and how much? Every other week, 80% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? none [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? HBH Betta Bites [*]Any new fish added to the tank? No [*]Any medications added to the tank? None [*]Any unusual findings o n the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Bubble nest is less clumped together and neat, more bubbles detached and all over [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? See above So, I got Yuki right around this time last year. At first he would not eat, and it took me a week to get him to start eating and he would only eat bloodworms but now loves his pellets. When I got him I didn't notice him making his nests but a couple of months ago, and last month, I noted his bubble nests were impressive, large, and very well formed. They have gotten less formed as of a couple of days ago when I switched him from the 20 back to his 2.5g. I read that when bettas bubble nests become a little sloppier it could be a sign of illness. He has always been very healthy, active, and aware. His eyes are clear and only closes his fins to swim around. He does this weird thing with his pectoral fins (the long thin ones that come from under his actual fins) it goes out to one side and it kind of looks like it is bothering him. Is his lowered skill in bubble nest making something I should be concerned about? Sorry for the improper terms for his fins I am rusty on betta anatomy. I can't get pictures or videos because it is too dark for now. I will get some tomorrow (:
  9. here waht you get when you cross dark shadows , a update , and a betta :yikes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVklbUbQnXQ&feature=plcp

Mardel Strips [*]Water temperature? 70 F [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 2.5 gallons [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Aquatech 3i or something like that for a 3 gallon [*]How often do you change the water and how much? every 2 days, 80% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 king betta, 3 inches [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? once a day [*]Any new fish added to the tank? betta [*]Any medications added to the tank? none yet [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Dropsied, fin rot [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Bottom sitting Not Yuki! My disgusting methhead neighbor left her betta when she moved out. He hasn't been fed for like 5 days. I noticed his scales are slightly lifted, most likely from her assortment of hollow ornaments. I didn't get to test his water, but I imagine the readings were off the charts. His water was murky and clouded with poop and food. He also has fin rot. I have never dealt with dropsy and am not prepared. How can I help him?
  11. Yuki is my gorgeous doubletail possible halfmoon betta. The little sucker is nipping his fins. He is in a 2.5 gallon with a filter. He loves his shark. He likes to hide in it. I have to replace it soon though, the paint is bubbling ): He is such a little personality. :3 Can someone tell me what plant that is? I have had it for 9 months and it hasn't rotted underwater......
  12. sorry no this time. well the tank is officialy set up inside now. i upgraded his light and bought some more bulbs waiting to see if the grow before they get put into the tank.
  13. Gcourtney

    Yeah

Okay I just found that my parents got a stand so I can move Rambo inside yes
  14. Tim took a few pics of Draco and his tank tonight and I thought I would share. Draco seems happy (as well as I) with the tank !! He LOVES swimming in and out of the plant roots as well as hiding..........(and the Otos do too) and Gary the snail was front and center for pics tonight. anyway here they are, Enjoy and thanks for looking: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/OBIOandSharkbait/DSCN3316_zps9d6d731b.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/OBIOandSharkbait/DSCN3315_zpsb6a43244.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/OBIOandSharkbait/DSCN3314_zps9f5bea67.jpg I really like the results,..............and this tank makes me smile.................so relaxing to watch...............
  15. I am looking for a good male to breed. I am not concerned with minor faults because these won't be show fish (unless I get really lucky down the line) and I am looking for a good strong male to start out with. Keep in mind the form of the Halfmoon, which does actually shape a near halfmoon on the fins. You should be able to draw a 'C' completely around the bettas fins. I don't mind rays or slightly uneven caudals but in my price range these are as close to perfect as I can get (: Dumbo Butterfly: Copper: Black Copper Tiger: Salamander Butterfly: Blue Tiger Dragon: This is mostly just to gauge what people would consider a good male! I have tried my best to find a select few and I may not go with the most popular (; But do vote anyways! I want to know what people think (:
  16. I am trying to order a betta from thailand. I guess my questions are, do I contact the transhipper before or after I place the order? When I get in contact with them, do I let the seller know the schedule the transhipper is going to ship the fish? The seller is BettaAkapes. She has a 310/312 rating. This is all so confusing and the language barrier is also tricky. I hope I can get this figured out before the auction is over or the fish is sold \:
  17. I overhauled Donna's tank today because the plants had gotten so crazy that a lot of the shorter ones barely got any light anymore She is still around but the growth is making her weaker and weaker. She spends most of her time resting now but is doing fine otherwise. Unfortunately I don't think she is going to last much longer though Anyway, her tank needed a makeover and she got quite excited exploring her "new diggs". In addition I had to move the remaining small neons in. Over the last week I noticed the slow but steady disappearance of only the small growing neons. You know, the ones that easily fit in my angelfish's mouth I have nowhere else to put them because keeping them with the goldfish is probably not going to help the neons. Luckily, Donna could not care less about them. She chased them around a bit at first but then decided that they are neither worth her time nor her energy. The neons seem to enjoy themselves since this tank is much more densely planted than the community tank. An oto moved in for a few days too in order to get some of the algae off the front glass and plant leaves. Plant-wise this tank currently has three anubias barteri var.nana (one of them huge, see second video), a nice sized java fern, one bushy stem giant hygro, two dwarf lilies, two small moss balls, one aponogeton, several stems of brazilian pennywort (thanks to the lack of light from being overgrown, almost all the leaves died off, but a bunch of tiny ones are growing out of the stems again), a small banana plant and various trimmings of anacharis, bacopa caroliniana, baby java ferns, water sprite and who knows what else And because the video really does not show how huge this one barteri is, here it gets featured in its own video that I took while I took the tank apart. This plant has 30+ leaves! Some don't look so good because of the algae that had started growing on it, but after the oto is done cleaning everything, I might go trim some of the damaged leaves off. Oh and that is one of the two tiny mossball pieces that is stuck in the plant.
  18. heres rambows tank. i'm thinking about putting some weeping moss and star moss on the rock in the back. and i might put some ricca fruitans on the gravel to make a carpet. I like how his color changes as he swims
  19. So my mom got my little sister who is 10 a betta fish..my sister wasn't as thrilled as my mom thought she would be since my sister wanted a fish so bad. His name is Bob and started out in a bowl but now is in a 6 gallon 360 aquarium type thing with a filter. For some reason his water always gets a thin layer of film I would call it. I'm not sure why and was wondering if you guys have any ideas? Also all she does is feed him..I always do water changes and etc. but I feel bad because he's in a dark room more than half the time. He also hides behind the filter and never in the rock cave thingy he has I'm also not sure why he does that..I honestly don't know much about bettas other than they need warm water and like places to hide..any tips? He hasn't been looking that great lately..well to me..Any tips or anything that I can do to make him a happy and healthy betta:p
  20. I just wanted to re-post here as suggested by koko what I posted in the subscribers area, as the information is not available to all members there. Hope this is helpful! Bubble nests are one of the few traits that makes Anabantoidei fish so interesting and unique. The usual formation of bubble nests in tanks show signs of breeding behaviour, good health, and even happiness (although this is not necessarily a way to be certain of a happy betta). However, although bubble nests are seen as a good sign, they can also act as warning signs for a fish or ill-health. A healthy betta: Bubble nests should be well knitted together, made of small to medium sized bubbles (bubbles generally no bigger than the mouth), and should be quite strong and not easily pop when reaching the surface. Bubbles should not seperate by themselves easily, and should be well compacted. A sick betta: A sick betta blowing bubbles often blows medium to large mucousy bubbles around the surface, but not in a group. They will be randomly blown and all around the surfce of the tank. These bubbles are caused from surface dwelling and exhaling oxygen that is taken in from the labyrinth. Although this may seem odd, bettas and other anabanotiodei species can easily blow few bubbles and form a displaced bubble nest, or even just randomly blow large bubbles. Bettas who are ill and blowing bubbles will generally act sick, showing clamped fins, rapid breathing, stress lines, lack of eating, colour change, and bottom sitting. There is no need to freak out seeing these sorts of bubbles, however they are a great indication of when your betta may be a little under the weather. A betta that is swimming and acting normally excluding a few displaced, large bubbles is nothing to worry about.
  21. I hope this is the right forum section. I came across a Craigslist ad today, and it's just too far away from me to do anything about it. http://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/pet/3230361018.html He's selling this setup for way more than it's worth, but... your eyes do not deceive you. Those are guppies, a betta, and a common goldfish. He says he'll give the fish away for $10 when I emailed. I would jump on it, and even asked my parents about it. (I can't drive) but they reiterated that it is just too far for a 'few fish.' (two hours away.) so if anyone near there could do anything, I hope you can.
  22. I have an absolutely GORGEOUS double tail betta. I made the mistake of using a tetrasafe water decontaminate and it resulted in his tail and parts of his fins rotting. Lesson learned, I use only water left out for a few days. But now, it seems some of his tail has grown back. Is that even possible? He looked like a female after the damage was done but now he has that full male look and even some color back in the very bottom. I was very surprised! But I am so happy that my Yuki has his beauty back!
  23. Since Donna Noble's tumor keeps growing steadily, I will probably have to euthanize her sometime soon. So far, she is still doing fine. She rests a lot more, but when she doesn't rest, she is quite active, foraging, begging for food, picking on the ADFs, very big appetite still. I have never had any bettas before her and just want to make sure I do not wait too long. How do I tell if she is in pain? She rests more because the tumor is making her a bit "tail heavy" and it costs her more energy to stay horizontal when swimming, so her swimming gets interrupted every few minutes by a short break on the sand or a plant leaf. Other than that she acts pretty normal. Full colors, the split in her tail that I accidentally gave her a week ago or so, is healing very well. EDIT Actually the split is fully healed already. I want to keep her as long as possible, but also do not want her to go through suffering. Any advice?
  24. I know I just updated on this tank a couple months ago, but things have started to established and I did a little rearranging so here is an update video. Tank size is 6.6 gallons (upgraded to this from a 5 gallon a couple months ago). I added some driftwood recently that I am loving Flame moss is looking a little raggedy (it apparently didn't like the move too much), but it should bounce back soon. EDIT: BTW music in the video is my bf's band He is the singer (and plays guitar) <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/teJQTfhuqNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  25. I decided to upgrade Campy's tank to the petco 6.6 gallon. I prefer the dimensions, even though it is only 1.5 gallons more it seems like a lot more swimming room Hopefully the plants will settle in okay! Tank Before: And now (please excuse all the bubbles, I just couldn't wait for them to go away Also, the flame moss is looking wacky in these pics, I need to move that around a little to figure out how it fits best):
