  1. Hi all! I'm Kj and I'm SO thrilled to have found a forum full of people who are as obsessed with goldfish as I am. I need your suggestions, but first, some background: I have a 55 gallon tank that has been up for about 4 months. I have a 4 year old 3-inch red and white oranda (I think; he may be a red cap...) named Merlin and a 5-inch (or so) calico ryukin named Mike Doyle. I'm not sure Mike Doyle's age because he was a pretty recent rescue from my local fish store. I have had Merlin since he was a tiny chain store fishy. I also keep a couple of apple snails who don't seem to mind the aquarium salt (Marcia and Greg). Perhaps this link to view some photos would help: http://s1297.photobu...library/Fishies I would really appreciate some opinions from you all! I am looking to add a third (and probably final due to tank space) fancy to my family. Do you have any recommendations? I'm really pretty open to any goldie who looks different than Mike and Merlin. Thanks in advance for any and all replies!
  2. Two Orandas (about 2-3 inch each including tail) I have, Hikari Lionhead Mini pellet Food. Saki-Hikari Fancy Goldfish Food. I know the "2 Minute Rule" but how many actual sinking pellets do I feed them?? How many times a day? How many times a week?
  3. Hi guys.....it seem's that the James family have a film star in their tank!! I hope he doesn't get too big for his pirate boots!! LOL!!
  4. ok so i've had my lovely oranda for a couple of months now, since she is my first i dont really know much about how they are supposed to look. so here's the question.... when looking at her from the back her bum (butt) appears to be almost square?? is this normal?? sorry if this is a strange question
  5. I separated about 15 fish from the 95g (originally 25 goldfish) into the 135g, BUT couldn't help myself and walked back into the fish store and picked up another 5 Orandas. The 4 little koi will go outside into the ponds once the weather warms up. I'm still conflicted about picking up a 300g stocking tank to have the goldfish grow outdoors during the summer. These little fish can be quite addicting. Tank: 135g Uniquarium (aka built in sump) being run by a Rio 2100 pump Lighting: Panorama Blue and White LED light Let me know what you think.
  6. My boyfriend wanted to test out his new flash so I thought it would the perfect opportunity for a mini photoshoot of my oranda whom has recently started changing colors. I named her Shark when I first got her because I thought she was a he. After finding out "he" was actually a she, I decided to change her name to Sharkina. Lol, idk if that's going to stick so I might change it. Here's a picture of when I first got her (about a month ago): Here is her now:
  7. I took a few pictures of my two special needs babies Wakka and Chibi today. They are doing quite well and are as always the cutest things ever Completely random order.
  8. Hopefully you guys don't get tired of these two still figuring out how my new camera works and Otis decided to cooperate today. He's not the most graceful swimmer. enjoy! I have the goldies to thank for this sword falling over annnd i saved the best for last
  9. My oranda has been in the hospital tank for over a week with white puffs on her head, suddenly tonight after I did a bit of cleaning on her tank and she was fine at first but when I went in to check on her she was stuck to the bottom of the filter. I gently puller her from it and she was just floating around. I had separated her from the others because I was worried by her sudden bloating. Prior to now, all of her fins were up and she was a happy little fish but now all of a sudden she took a turn for the worst. I'm not sure why this is suddenly happening! Help!
  10. Figured it was time to get some new photos of my little baby fish, who aren't so baby any more. They've stayed small for ages and then in the last month or so have doubled in size. Sei! Who's I'm 80% sure is a girl now. Was hoping for a boy This makes me lol so hard: Minke! Secretly my favourite, and another girl. And this is Pod, sadly he's not doing as well as the others - he has a deformed mouth and can't eat so well and I have no patience to give him special treatment just at the moment... And this is Damon, who is an oranda baby, one of Sam and Dean's fry. Took ages to change colour, but finally got there XD Thanks for looking~!

PraziPro and salt 1% Hi everyone, I've been away for what seems way to long Been busy at home, work and with new projects (aka discus fish lol).... Anyways I'm writing today on D&D because my husband tried to cheer me up the other and got me a surprise fish... I almost had a heart attack when I came in after work yesterday and saw a beautiful huge oranda in my main tank... NO QT whatsoever, he just wanted to surprise me (he never listens to me when I'm going on about my fish nor the importance of QT). She'd been in my tank for 8 hours with the others and upon close examination she had some small white spots which he swears were not on her when he bought her, so assuming he's correct they appeared after being introduced in my healthy main tank. Spots on her wen may be wen growth? And the ones on her tail might be that her tail got sucked on the filter (Goldy used to get them all the time) - but I'm very nervous and anxious... She also has bloody streaks on her fins (maybe high ammonia from shipping? petshop told my hubby she'd just gotten in form US night before) and is a bit shy. I immediately set up my hospital tank and added salt to 1% and PraziPro because she looked to be yawning a lot... I tried feeding her last night and she wouldn't eat, tried all day today and nothing... Tried NLS pellets, Repashi soilent green, progold, krill, bloodworms, flakes EVERYTHING I had and to no avail, she just doesn't feel like eating apparently. I noticed she has a big wen and has a growth on her nostrils that resembles that of the pom-pons to some extent, it tends to get into her mouth and she constantly chews on it. Should I/ Can I trim it? I was thinking of adding salt to 3% and continue monitoring her and see if more ich like lesions develop. Also I'm scared that something might be in my main tank now... I did 2 back to back 80% wc after taking the big girl out but I'm freaked my babies might've caught something. Should I do anything to my main tank? Any suggestions? I really appreciate all of your help, I'm kind of desperate here... Here are some pics and a video of my huge sick baby...
  12. This is super long overdo, sorry. Now that everyone is healthy and settled and in the appropriate homes I got some videos for you all. The 75 is pretty bare, I'm trying to grow out some plants in the bubble eye tank. Here is my 56 gallon bubble eye tank. The large calico is Dolly, the small calico is Kai, the red and white is Dino and the black is Sampson. And here is my 75 gallon oranda and Ranchu tank. The big Ranchu is Raichu, the medium one is Bowie, the small Ranchu is unnamed. The tiger oranda is Scarface and the black one is Dice. I hope everyone can see these this time. Let me know what you think or I'd you have any fun name ideas for the littlest ranchu

Ok guys, I know my tank is still overcrowded even after my upgrade, but a bigger tank is not an option right now. I just want to reduce stress on my fish until I can upgrade again. My oranda is the one I'm really worried about. He's been the most sensitive to ammonia/nitrite from the start. This Butch the oranda. Not sure why the 2nd pic is upside down. I think this is due to some kind of ammonia or nitrite poisoning. The test readings are pretty good now, but this is residual from the old smaller tank. I wanted to try a salt bath but I'm not sure how (I also have 3 apple snails). Thanks!

So here it is I have an oranda. He has had a white spot on his wen from about almost the time I purchased him. It comes and goes, so I thought it was wen growth. Then a week ago it got a little fuzzy so I thought maybe fungal. Dabbed the area with a bit of peroxide. Seemed to help. Next day a new little pimple spot appeared. With a white head. Then a little white string coming from it. Within an hour it fell off. Did a bit of research and thought maybe anchor worm. But looked at picks and there wasn't a "y" end to it nor a red spot where it was coming from. So I was told to try bio bandage on it. I have been applying that with feeding him medi gold. Seemed to get better where it went down and became that slightly whit area again on the wen. I applied the bio bandage again this morning, but after about 15 min I noticed something stringy coming out again. This time the color was slightly orange. Not sure if it was the bio bandage coloring it. Because I notice it turns slight pinkish when applied. Then again as quick as it appeared it disappeared. Now later today looks like that whit wen growth again. If you couldn't tell I'm extremely confused and concerned. All his friends including him are eating and acting normal. No other visible signs of anything wrong. So what should I do? Is it tape worms, anchor worms, treat for flukes, fungal, or something else. Worried about my little guy. I have pics just not sure how to post them? Thank you all!
  16. I am a photographer in the west Michigan area that is working on a project with fancy goldfish. I am wondering if there are any folks in the area that would have some cool orandas that they wouldn't mind me photographing. Just to give you an idea what I have done with other fish (bettas) you can check out some of my images at 500px.com under Bruce Wyma.
  17. Hi everyone I snapped a few pics of Eden today, since Otis isn't feeling well (super floaty, it's my fault I fed him Pro Gold) and I really liked how they turned out so I thought I'd share
  18. Hello there i have 3 400 Litre Plastic troughs that i am wanting to use as ponds for baby orandas. How many orandas that are about 3cms long Could i put in each pond.I am planning on getting them to around 8-10Cm within one year thanks
  19. SO QT is over and Edie has officially been introduced to her still nameless boy toy. They are getting along really great so far I have a video to post at some point too of the introduction, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Anyway, enjoy!
  20. Hello! Let me just start out by saying this is not my fish, or my tank. Just something I saw at petsmart today. I saw a really pretty oranda at the pet store today, but it had a green wart like thing on it's wen. I'm just curious as to what that thing was! any Ideas? Sorry if posted in the wrong fourm, was just really curious.
  21. hi everyone...it hasn't been too long since my last update but I just received my new light fixture, the aquatic life t5 HO and I am AMAZED at how wonderful it makes my tank/fish look! Of course I lost one of the little screws for the legs immediately after opening so I'm going to have to figure that out, it's just resting on the glass for now. here are a couple of photos of my oranda's Otis bit off more than he could chew... FEED ME! (before repashy, they wouldn't cooperate until I fed them) Next on the list is new plants! Thanks for looking edit: it just cracks me up in every photo otis has got his mouth full
  22. It's about two weeks now since Wakka started to pinecone again (he pineconed once early this year). The other two fish that started to pinecone slightly went flat within 24 hours. Removing all the TMS and the rust in it really seems to have massively improved the situation. I even gave the filters a good cleaning in order to get any possible rust particles out of there too. But Wakka is not 100% flat yet. He has been in Epsom for the first week. Temperature is at 82F, 10g QT with 180gph HOB, daily 100% w/c, params 0/0/0. 400mg metronidazole per 10 gallons of tank water. I clean his filters out weekly to remove as many nasties as possible. He also tends to tip onto his side when swimming near the bottom. He has no problem swimming around in the tank / up to the surface / down to the bottom, but he tips over and sideways a lot - see video. Periodically bottom sitting under a plant. He always had buoyancy issues ever since I got him, getting floaty, or flipping over without being floaty etc. The wound on his side is healing nicely. All bloody spots have disappeared within a few days. The mushy belly firmed up again. He is quite active and has great appetite. No clamping, no gasping. Nice pink gills, no redness/red streaks or anything. Just the still slightly lifted scales and the swimming issues. It's like watching Bambi on the frozen lake. So.... continue MMs? For how long? Re-add epsom since we went a week without since the last use, or is this not recommended? For now I'll be keeping him in QT either way, because with his buoyancy issues I don't want to toss him into a tank with almost 700gph filtration and 75% output of a whisper 300 air pump. D:
  23. I was just looking at old photos of my Oranda and Lionchu, my first two goldfish, and was so wowed at how far they have come. Then: Now: Not a huge change, but certainly noticeable. Makes me a little proud.
  24. So I'm working on the 55 gallon new design. I changed the background to black and I also got them a powerhead on the side. Goldzilla likes it, the other two aren't sure yet! but I'm planning on getting different plants for the aquarium, but as of now this is what it looks like! Before After (in the making) Also my little Pendleton is growing up so fast! he's getting so much orange so fast! Before After Last but not least Pendleton got a new buddy! I don't have a name for her yet, I've had her for a few weeks now but Pendleton is in LOVE with her! he doesn't like to leave her alone its kinda cute. When she gets annoyed of him she just squishes him, but you can tell he likes it She's huge! any ideas for names? Oh and they're both getting quarentined in the main tank since they both have never been treated!
